Green Day have been pulling kids up on stage and letting them play for years. I've seen many shows where the kids couldn't play said instrument and Billie would toss them back into the crowd, haha. I did always notice that he didn't seem to pick girls all that much. I'm glad Stephanie got a chance to get up there and rock !!
Awesome! I love when people given a chance completely deliver like that. I'm sure I would have messed up and then been embarassed and run away. Good for her!
They did this last night in DC too.
First, he had two different guys come up and sing. One was pretty good, but the one who came after must have been living his dream. I was pretty far away from him, but I could almost hear the kid saying "i f*cking swear to you, I can sing this song!" over and over.
He totally rocked it! I was impressed!
Then later on, he had someone come and play the guitar. The guy got up on stage, hugged Billie, and KISSED HIM ON THE CHEEK.
He also danced with this really cute girl wearing a headscarf.
Billie Joe, you are my hero.
Even if you dislike GD, you have to admit they are nice to their fans.
@heavysyrup: When i was in high school, my boyfriend got pulled up on stage at a green day concert (i wonder if because he had a huge green mohawk) and basically made his life when he got to play the drums with them. its really awesome that they do that.
@heavysyrup: Green Day blows my mind in so many ways--their intelligence, their raw talent, the fact that they were HUGE when I was a freshman in high school 15 years ago and they've maintained and increased their following since then.
The fact that they're amazing to their fans is just icing on the awesomecake.
I think Green Day does this at all their concerts, maybe? I went to one in St. Paul, Minn., four years ago and they did this. But yay for Stephanie! You go Glen Coco!
This would have been my dream come true in 1994 when my friends and I listened to Dookie pretty much nonstop for months. (Remember when you couldn't escape from the "When I Come Around" video?)
As it is, this is still pretty awesome. Rock on, Stephanie!
They did this when I was in high school, in like 1998, at the HFStival in DC. My best friend was pulled up and he had the same sort of "you better be able to play" thing.
Thank God were were all in a Ska band.
Good God, this comment has confirmed it: I am so an old.
Oh my god, I remember this happening! I was 14 and my parents had FINALLY consented to let me go to the HFStival. My best friend got her belly button pierced in one of those tents, showed everyone at school, but not her parents, and 3 weeks later it got infected on our school trip.
@Skellatrix: To this day, I'll still yell along with every word of "Longview" with my fellow Olds when it comes up on my 90s playlist that we tend to hit up on roadtrips...
@Skellatrix: Oh, shit. I don't just remember the singing--I remember the boys in my class passing around the lyric sheet to the whole album and being like 'oh my god, the whore is a MAN'!
@Trulymadlyme: I'm old right there with you. I went to HFStival in 1995 and 1996. I remember seeing PJ Harvey, Garbage, Primus, Mighty Mighty Bosstones... NO WAY would I be able to put up with being in a giant sweltering bowl full of people and beach balls today, but god damn, it was magical when I was 16.
@Skellatrix: I am 100% old then, because not only do I remember when they sang about masturbation, I remember when my friends and I used to sing that song all the time and we'd replace "masturbation" with "playing Scrabble" so our parents wouldn't get mad.
@rah29: I remember figuring that our when I was about 13 when the album came out, and I was SHOCKED. and giggled for like 5 minutes. And then giggled some more at the masturbation. I was quite a lame 13 year old. Or ... you know, like many otherl 13 year olds.
@Trulymadlyme: I'm officially out-olding everyone. I saw them in 1991 (weirdly, I can remember it was Friday the 13th of December) in my home town. There were exactly 26 people there.
