My husband and I have had many a talk with our confused 11 year-old son about these issues, as he is an athlete and baseball fanatic. Luckily, I have a husband who has taught our son that this behavior is not praiseworthy.

I have to say, I would hit the person who gave me a lifelong virus--probably only once, but I would hit them. Particularly, because if someone was reckless enough to give me herpes they could have given me AIDs.
And with an STI this late in a relationship, there may also be the lesser issue of fidelity to consider. That's something that a large percentage of the population is pretty passionate about.
As I write this, I'm so scared that it will come out that the herpes story isn't true. I like Chris Brown, and need him not to be some typical wife-beater. I need this to be a one time thing, some temporary insanity resulting from a teenager's inability to handle an adult problem.

And by the way, my ex-fiance gave me herpes. Did I hit him or threaten him? No. I chose to have unprotected sex with him, and I paid the consequences. My husband's ex-wife gave him herpes after she cheated on him while he was at war. Did her hit her? No, but he did divorce her two years later. See how easy this is? It's how grown-ups play.

If one is having unprotected sex, one is responsible for THEMSELVES - your ride it / lick it / suck it bareback, its on YOU, ultimately.

I was just being honest about what my own actions would be. I would smack someone who gave me an STI; I'm glad you wouldn't. If I were in a committed relationship with someone who told me they were tested and clean, I would be horrified if they then gave me a virus. Would I be right to hit them? No. But would I do it? Probably.
I was also recognizing in my response to the story how weird it was for me (and many others) to need to latch onto the herpes fight explanation because I like Chris Brown, and really wanted this to be explained somehow, even if it could never be defended.
Maybe that was not adequately reflected in the 3 paragraphs I managed to rattle off on my lunch break. Or maybe you can only hear opinions that exactly match your own or you start name-calling.
News outlets are reporting now that the beating was severe, and that he bit her, which is terrifying. He's clearly a monster. And I feel terrible for that young girl. I never didn't feel terrible for her.
I just also hoped for an explanation that this was a one time incident, and that Chris Brown wouldn't join a crowded sea of assholes that are young, famous, and violent.

Axl Rose's marriage, which is on par with Britney Spears' "marriages", ended very soon after his assaults. So did the hugeness of GnR, but that could well be because they only really had 1 decent album in them (Appetite for Destruction, obvs).
I can't imagine Mr. Brown hanging onto his fans if it turns out that this ugly-sounding situation is what happened. He's hardly on par with an artist like Miles Davis, high school dancing movies or no high school dancing movies.

This is one of those things that you don't really think about having to deal with when you're pregnant. I was all worried about not being able to change a diaper, but it was this stuff that I should have been thinking about.

I have an 11 year-old son, and he's a baseball-playing, baseball-watching fanatic. He has questions about the things he hears about some of the players, i.e. wife beaters (thanks, Phillies), drug users (yeah, you, A-Rod), etc. Thankfully, my husband is of the mind that these guys are useless pieces of shit and makes no bones about it, but it really is confusing to him.
How do you explain to a kid that money rules all? And like I said on an earlier thread, if you can throw a ball or sing a song, it doesn't matter what you do or how bad it is? Is this truly how we want our kids to be raised or think this is how the world should work?
I get so goddamned mad when I see shit like this.

On one hand, I'm irate and will not chew a piece of Wrigley's as long as Chris Brown is endorsed by them.
On the other hand, I know that Chris Brown is a childhood victim now fully immersed in the devastating cycle of domestic violence.
I just hope that he sees the error of his ways and works with childhood victims who are coping with what they've witnessed growing up.
As for Rihanna, she's in my prayers. Most victims of DV don't have their names released to the world like that. It's not right.
