That picture and that first bullet point. THE CRYING IS GETTING RIDICULOUS, PEOPLE.

Tonight while I was napping, Boyfriend put up the NY Magazine Obama cover and a small printout of the Shepard Fairey Hope poster. These will suffice until I can get my authentic Presidential Portrait and put it up, 1960s-Catholic-gramma-style. (Where do I get one of those, anyway?)

Re: the portrait -- here is Obama's official Senate portrait: [obama.senate.gov] -- it has a link to a large-sized image that you can print out. I assume there'll be a similar Presidential portrait once he gets into the White House.

@Claire Buoyant: Thanks! I went on whitehouse.gov to see if there's one of Bush (so I can find it when Obama's in office (!!!!!!!)) but couldn't find one.

Guys, he said in a news conference that they are getting a shelter puppy... because "they are all mutts, like [me]". That made my mom cry when she heard that.

OMG, this story made me tear up again:

VIENNA, Austria - She was a stranger, and she kissed me. Just for being an American.

It happened on the bus on my way to work Wednesday morning, a few hours after compatriots clamoring for change swept Barack Obama to his historic victory. I was on the phone, and the 20-something Austrian woman seated in front of me overheard me speaking English.

Without a word, she turned, pecked me on the cheek and stepped off at the next stop.

Nothing was said, but the message was clear: Today, we are all Americans.

@Kilotwat: I will never forget the day I went to the Mexican consulate in support of a friend arguing for dual citizenship status. There were times when her job required her to travel overseas, and she and her work felt it would be much safer to travel under a Mexico issued passport than her US one. (This was after 9/11)

@Archetype: Connecticut overwhelmingly voted down a constitutional convention to ban gay marriage, validating a state supreme court decision that just came down. That's something to celebrate. Something to hope for everywhere. Something to work towards.

@Kilotwat: Yep! I am occasionally proud of my state. Usually when it comes to reproductive issues and women's healthcare, but they surprised me with this one!

I got to vote NO on that one and did my best to spread the word.

@will_this_dissertation_ever_end?!: I don't want to understate the awfulness of passing prop 8 in California. That's the state with the most gay marriages and the most gay couples! But... In the long run, president Obama is going to appoint Supreme Court justices that will benefit gay rights (and all other kinds of rights) in a thousand ways that go beyond California. Electing Obama could be the first step in legalizing gay marriage for all Americans!

I haven't been this happy in 8 years. Who is keeping the official countdown to "Bush out" day?

My vote is for a greyhound of course. You can't get puppies, but a rescue grey as First Dog would be totally awesome. Imagining a grey racing through the White House makes me smile.
