Is There A Better Word For "Fiancé"? |

Husband-In-Training?
Future Husband 2009? (Insert year of wedding, 2009 or 2010 I'm assuming.)
Pre-husband?

It makes me proud.
Am I looking at it wrong?
I'm just glad as fuck someone thinks it's a good idea to marry my stinky ass. Seriously.
But I also put a lot of stock into a marriage and strongly disagree with divorce. So, one and done for me. But, I also said the same thing about kids...and I'm sooo ready for another...uh oh.

Since I got engaged last March, I've had a hard time referring to my finace as my fiance. I keep saying "my boyfriend" and then feeling bad about it.

It was an arduous process for us to get to the point where he actually proposed. I EARNED that damn word.

My reason, I thought, was just because I'd been around so many women who'd shoved their diamond rings in my face and called themselves "future Mrs. Hisname" and seemed so damn smug to me at a time when I was wanting to marry my boyfriend(same guy) and he wasn't sure he'd ever be ready. Now I think that was all kind of silly, though. I wasn't just trying to avoid being an asshole, I thought I was too cool to claim something so associated with girliness.
If I were to do it over, I would enjoy my engagement more. I wouldn't assume jealousy from other women, and I would embrace the silly french title for that joyous, expectant time.

I use this a lot with my niece Serenity, but in part because otherwise people assume that it's my daughter Serenity.

So I answered -3 years. Or something to that effect. It was thought-inducing, and had the added bonus of cracking him up.

As far as fiance goes, I just think about Elaine at that party on Long Island. "Maybe the dingo ate your baby!!"

I just got engaged, and I call the lucky man my "shubby". As in Soon-to-be-Hubby. I'm his swifey, although that doesn't roll off the tongue as well.
Wow, after typing that I realize that it is really obnoxiously cute and kinda gross. Nevermind.

But I'm also one of the people who enjoy saying fiance. It makes me feel special.
