    I'm tired of encasing my body in non-breatheable synthetics just so I don't offend someone by having veins or subcutaneous fat. These hips don't deal well with being repressed. They cannot be restrained.

    It's the in/out cycle of modeling that swallows these girls and puts them in the spotlight and then spits them back out a few seasons later. If you were previously working but an unknown you are unestablished. It's until you hit it big for the first time that you are recognized and paid attention to. Before that, it's not that they were old (not new) but just unknown.

    @Johnny_Rocket: Yes. That's exactly how it works. Tao Okamoto was an old hand by the time I first came to Paris. The idea of the "new" girl is, in 99% of cases, a fiction. She was there -- it's just that you didn't notice.

    @thatonegirlsays: This line appeals to my inner laziness. Why would I want to deal with two garments (Spanx and a dress) when I can just put on one (Spanxdress)? This will be the biggest win since cheese and fries combined into one tasty dish!

    @DangerMouse: I'm not sure -- they may simply be playing off the space angle, but actually, given how long it has been since Mankind last landed on the Moon (1972) and Sally Ride's first trip into space (1983), it's kind of nice that they will get a little more face time with the public, even if it's in an advertisement.

    @JanicefromSA: Whiskey and popcorn: I think it's just frustration at the tokenism, because the likelihood of a short girl getting hired is next to nothing. Sure, someone less than 5'7 will win a competition, but they will probably have no career in catwalking, at least.

    @JanicefromSA: Whiskey and popcorn: May I add that the concept of who's short and who's tall now baffles me? At roughly 5'6", I always thought I was tall, or at least taller than the average woman, but apparently not.


    Anyway, I guess it's kind of a pointless rant, because model standards will not change anytime soon and it's really a question of vanity (I LIKE to think I'm tall) more than anything substantive.

    @JanicefromSA: Whiskey and popcorn: They just don't get work. Short women don't wear clothing as well as tall women; they are frequently overwhelmed by larger proportions, dont have enough leg length, and generally are thought to have bodies that interfere too much with the garment. I am short, I don't look as good as a lot of my taller friends in certain items, even if we both have thin bodies with similar proportions.
