Yeah, this is ridiculous... it's for parents who feel bad about punishing their kids. though I managed to make time outs fun sans bear. I rarely got them, but when I did, I would play with my shadow, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

My brother, on the other hand, spent a ton of time in the "naughty corner." You could tell because his noseprint was on the wall there. You could also tell he'd been going there for years, because the nose print grew higher and higher over the years.

@LaComtesse: Meh, punishments don't always need to be super negative. Think about adults, when we fight or yell, sometimes we just need a break from a situation. Some time-outs can be like that, like when kids are antagonizing each other, but not really hitting, or when they are just being cranky or not sharing and need some time apart. In my kindergarten class, I had 100% control, but only truly "punished" kids probably 10% of the time they were doing something objectionable. Sometimes just sending them to read a book, and having a talk about the situation after, and getting them truly to understand their behavior was more effective than yelling and making them sit in a corner facing the wall. Of course, today we live in a society where it's much cooler to just be like, "I spank my kids to emphasize how wrong hitting is."

I like this idea, but this bear could stand to be more high-tech!

My issue: it will take any child over the age of two to figure out how to mess with the timer. And if they can't touch the bear, what's the point?

To this day, my mom says that I was the only kid in the world for whom taking away her books was a punishment. (And now I say, "Man, you didn't know many kids!")

That seems like it would very quickly become a double edged sword, causing the kid to confuse punishment with pleasure and...all sorts of issues (some fun, some not) later.

Then again, getting sent to my room always felt plenty punishment enough when I wasn't playing there voluntarily.
