H&M owes me a big "Thank you". They can start by having some consistency with their sizing. While the ability to purchase size 10's for the first time since the 90's makes me smile, but the occasional need to cop a 14 takes me back to my sad place.

My city got an H&M not long ago, but I still haven't been there. I went to H&M when I was in NYC a few years ago and [sotto voce] wasn't that impressed.

I feel like there's something wrong with me for being a 20-something female who has no desire to shop at H&M.

@Kivrin: Naw, there's nothing wrong with you. We also have like 4000 H&M stores, some of which are multi-level and smell bad and have booming music and unhelpful staff and huge lines for the dressing room. It is an okay thing not to like it.

It totally won't stop me from going to two different H&M stores on my lunch break today, though.

@tscheese: I may have gone to a bad store in NYC. I think it was in SoHo. I've heard that the lines in my new store are horrendous. I can barely handle regular old Banana Republic shopping at the mall -- I'm all about online shopping -- so my whole crowd-loathing has definitely contributed to my H&M avoidance.

That and I'm also too lazy to care much about fashion.

@bluebears: Oh yeah, it totally depends. Sometimes you'll get something really sleek and forgiving that skims and drapes perfectly. Sometimes you'll get something that is supposed to fit over your shoulders but the seams appear to be made for the rear quarterpanel of a trapezoidal pygmy rhinoceros. It is all very luck-of- the-draw.

@bluebears: They are pretty good on me, a lot better than American-cut clothes. I can never buy button down shirts off the rack because the shoulders are always too wide for me, but H & M has some that fit great. Of course, I dont have too many of those because the idea of paying 4 bucks to launder a 20 dollar shirt is too much for me to handle.

The runway and ready-to-wear versions are rarely exactly the same. The runway version is a very light, flowy material. I'm pretty sure they're made of different materials.
