<![CDATA[Which Politicians Do Your Favorite Mall Retailers Really Support?]]> We still don't know who those Abercrombie-wearing toolbelts at the Barack Obama speech were. But we do, thanks to the media's dogged refusal to back away from this story, know they weren't sent by Abercrombie & Fitch. Employees of the world's worst company only gave a total of $500 to the Obama campaign, and that was the donation of a single employee. We checked campaign finance records to find out what sort of political agendas you are really supporting when you don a retailer's sweatshop-manufactured logo T-shirt. We did the math on Abercrombie, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Barney's and J. Crew so you wouldn't have to be reminded how much you suck at basic arithmetic!

Abercrombie & Fitch
This probably won't shock you: Abercrombie & Fitch is torn between mindless apathy and pure evil. In the past six election cycles only one candidate has managed to crack a thousand in campaign contributions collected from Abercrombie employees' studiously frayed pockets, and that politician would be — you guessed it! — George W. Bush. The Skull & Bones candidate has raised $5,000 in racist classist Abercrombie dollars over the past few cycles, largely thanks to spokesman Tom Lennox. It is the only retailer whose employees have contributed to the Worst Presidency Ever.

Urban Outfitters
Urban Outfitters founder and CEO Dick Hayne is notorious for his support of that weird Pennsylvania senator who brought home his dead baby and became the first politician to become synonymous with butt sex. But the single largest recipient of Urban Outfitters campaign contributions has been Barack Obama, whose $7,400 collected from various executives — perhaps subliminally influenced by those clever T-shirts? — just tops the $7,100 of Dick's dollars that have lined the coffers of Rick Santorum.

J. Crew
J.Crew is your store if you are into uneasy family reunions! CEO Mickey Drexler has donated nearly a hundred grand to Democratic committees alone, while octogenarian founder Arthur Cinader likes lining the coffers of any fucking batshit Republican who bats an eyelash his away. Cinader has donated to Alan Keyes, Sam Brownback and Malcolm Forbes, but his fave is Phil Gramm, who has received $8,000 from him over the years.

Barney's
Barney's is the place to shop if you like avant-garde design and hate Hillary. Employees have donated thousands of dollars to New York politicians over the past few years — $1000 to Charlie Rangel, $4,000 to Chuck Schumer, $3,000 to Rudy — and a mere five Benjamins to Hills. (Though $250 did come from creative director Julie Gilhart, who is like the Karl Rove of fashion trends. Perhaps she likes pantsuits?)

Forever 21
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the store for your blue-collar budget is the biggest supporter of the Hillary Clinton campaign, clocking in at $11,500. Interestingly, two executives also donated a total of $4,000 to Rudy Giuliani's campaign and another $2,300 to Obama. Everyone knows variety = the spice of Forever 21!

He's got a new book, Eccentric Glamour (one chapter is called "Say No to Ho"), and his interview is chock full of amusing witticisms and quippy bon mots, especially if you recall that he says it all in a crisp British accent. Of convincing Donatella Versace to stand in the window of Barneys New York for ten minutes, Simon says: "I told her it would be like an aquarium." He claims he came out of the womb totally and obviously gay: "I was flitting around the house like a Russian ballerina. I think my parents were just glad I wasn't a schizophrenic." On Hillary Clinton and her wardrobe: "She looks entirely appropriate. I don't want a politician who is going to wear a backless Dior gown. I don't want a politician who's thinking about fashion for even one millisecond. It's the same as medical professionals. The idea of a person in a Comme des Garçons humpback dress giving me a colonoscopy is just not groovy."

On plastic surgery:

"I am completely opposed to it. I understand it with performers who might want to extend their careers, but the whole concept of being anti-aging is very questionable to me. Regular people torturing their faces, it's nasty. Learn to glue on false eyelashes. Don't become Jocelyn Wildenstein when you can be Louise Nevelson."

<![CDATA[Donatella Versace As God Intended Her: Behind Glass]]> Last night I trekked uptown to Barneys to witness the meeting of two of my favorite personalities in fashion: Donatella Versace and Barneys Creative Director Simon Doonan. The two were there to celebrate the launch of Versace's menswear collection, and, for an amazing ten minutes, posed behind a glass partition together. Luckily, videographer Alex Goldberg was there to both capture Donatella and the reactions of one very, very vocal paparazzo who is apparently no fan of the Versace look. Clip above.

<![CDATA[Christian Siriano: Works Hard, Is Gonna Stab You]]> Dear Christian Siriano: We're sorry (okay, I'm sorry) for making disparaging comments about your ego and your hairstyle during the beginning of the most recent Project Runway. We (okay, I) now understand the error of our ways. Because truth be told, you seem like a totally nice guy; the kinda guy we would probably be friends with. And if the interview you gave with The Advocate, is any indication, you are one earnest, humble, hard-working, fierce tranny mess.

I was actually pretty surprised I won. I wanted it so badly, but I needed it more than I wanted it. I'm just getting started....I'm not looking to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. I want to brand myself as well, but I want my clothes to be high fashion, avant-garde. It's easier to take inspiration from something that's creative than to build on something that's not. I don't want to do QVC.

Fortunately for Siriano, he — unlike Project Runway alums Chloe Dao, Jay McCarroll, Emmett McCarthy, and Laura Bennett — won't have to: Barneys New York, Jeffrey's, and Saks Fifth Avenue have all already bought pieces of his. So, yeah — one week after winning and Siriano, on talent and personality alone, is already the most successful person to have come out of the Bravo show. Other reasons to love Christian? He cares about his friends. "The only episode that bothered me was the first part of the finale. They showed all of the other designers with their friends and family, but not me. I had a bunch of friends over, and they cut it out of the episode. I'm not alone out here," says the clearly sensitive soul. Also, he's still friends with model Lisa Nargi. Says Lisa, "He's someone I'm always texting or sending messages to on MySpace. When things calm down for him, we'll definitely see a lot of each other....His clothes are going to be up there with the top designers. They're going to be the clothes that everyone wants to have. He'll be a designer like [John Galliano]."

And how is his life different post-Runway? "I can hardly go out anymore," he says. "Everyone wants to touch me or carry me, which gets really annoying after the first few times. You'd think I was naked the way people look at me....But I get paid to do parties now." Oh and does he say "fierce" anymore? Of course not: His phrase du jour is now "I'm gonna stab you."
