Haaaate. Hate the Xmas music and avoid it unless I don't have a choice. But if you twist my arm, I'll cop to two. The Jackson Five did a Christmas album and I still like it. Especially the break-down part in the middle of "Up On The Rooftop" where the other Four are chanting 'pitta-patta-pitta-patta-PIT-ta-patta-patta', then Michael comes in with the reindeer names. I'm sure it's a Motown production, maybe early seventies, but it's golden.

And the other one, unmentioned until now - The Kinks' "Father Christmas"

Just this lovely evening, as we were sitting in the Purple Cow, drinking purple milkshakes with our dinner (and my waitress brought me a BLnoT, though I clearlyasked for a BLT. Why, we have no T's says she. Like you couldn't tell me this 20 fucking minutes ago?), the Christmas Dogs came on - oh how I rocked it out!!

River - Joni Mitchell is one of my favorites even though my husband swears it's way to sad to be a Christmas song. Nat king Cole goes on heavy rotation as does Ella Fitzgerald. I also think of Christmas as a time to whip out all the awesome Bach and other really heavily religious choral stuff.

Okay, don't throw shoes at me if someone's already said this, but "Bethelehemu" (Yes, there's supposed to be a "u" on the end; I don't think the song is in English) as sung by the Morehouse Glee Club. Add that to the short list of things I miss about my home state (Georgia). They sing it every year at the lighting of the Great Tree. At least they did up until I left.

I am stuck at Newark, and let me tell you: I would kill for some Christmas muzak right now. Something to drown out the increasingly pissy passengers and announcements that yes, my flight to Chicago will be EVEN later.

My favorite Christmas song is probably O Holy Night or The Holly and the Ivy, and least favorite? I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. Seriously, hate that fucking song.

Christmas is always the best, and yes, the fact that 101.1 has been playing Christmas music for the past month is enough to make anyone bare their teeth and clench their fists a little.

Having said that, this is what my weekend has consisted of so far: I opened the blinds only a little so that I could see the snow but still enjoy the glow of my Christmas tree. So cozy!

I am spending the next few days with my aunt, so I am rounding up all my kitchen tools and supplies. I am transcribing my recipe for Mushroom Meringues while I listen to Crumpet the elf talk about his stint at Macy's, which has become a tradition of mine. After, I will either switch on Food Network or finally turn on 101.1.

I couldn't be happier, and if you haven't already, you seriously need to listen to David Sedaris; it will become your tradition too.

I work in retail -- last week the manager decided to only play Christmas music. We were going to riot, New School style until we remembered that we're highly replaceable.

Now we're just counting down until the 26th.

But my favorite Christmas song is "Christmas Bells" aka Snoopy's Christmas. (about Snoopy and the Red Baron, and how Snoopy doesn't get shot down because it's Christmas)

Least favorite: there are so many!

"O Holy Night" is my fave Christmas song of all time. I sang it in church the year my grandfather died because it was his fave too. So it makes me think of him, too.

I also like "Children Go Where I Send Thee" and "Go Tell it on the Mountain."

Mr. FooFoo and I sing it to each other and have our entire marriage. It's the only song we call "our song" which is kind of messed up when you think about the lyrics. Hmmm...
