Aaaaah it's so befitting for an Israeli company to make this ad. SEE WHAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH EVERY DAY?
There's this beer commercial on all the time now for Goldstar (this Israeli beer) where a bunch of men are sitting at a bar watching women's soccer, and the soccer player starts crying while all her teammates comfort her. Then the narrator says "be a man, drink Goldstar."
Even though it "from Israel in a 2008 campaign" the thing is ALL PR -- international and national -- must go through some sort of approval process, and I imagine someone here in the States still signed off on it.
The reason the campaign resurfaced last Friday is because the agency (McCann Digital in Tel Aviv) was entering it in this week's Cannes Advertising Festival to try to win a pathetic award.
There are definitely Breezers sold in Australia, which is why I brought this ridiculous farce to the attention of all my friends back there - they were suitably appalled.
1. I am 99.9% sure I've had a Bacardi Breezer stateside. 2. The saddest part of this ad is that I know people who have "ugly friends" for the express purpose of making themselves look hotter.
Too Bad! It would be awesome to hear my favorite calypso song ("If You Want to Be Happy For the Rest of Your Life Never Make A Ptretty Woman Your Wife)--Youtube clip here all summer.
@supremecourtjester: Did you watch this before posting it? Cause, damn. I'm not sure a two minute clip of things like Rosie O'Donell's face shopped onto men's bodies and other "funny" pictures of "ugly" women are appreciated here.
CW/AD were women, but the COO + CD -- who, in all likelihood came up with the campaign -- were men. CWs and ADs often just come up with the execution (visual and tagline) and don't have a lot of say in the overall campaign direction.
@perfidia: That's sad. My BFF works for iStock's corporate office and has tried to convince me to model for a few of the contributor's shoots. I always say no because you never know where your face will end up.
@morninggloria: I'd like in on that. I would also appreciate an apology from the people who make Zima, and the people who make Jolly Ranchers, because making my own "flavored" Zimas in college in the late 90s lead to COUNTLESS shocking and immoral shenanigans.
Actually now that I think about it, maybe we weren't even drunk, maybe we just had extreme sugar highs?
@Tu-lip: Hahaha. The site with the creds has a helpful little "Fine this person on Facebook" link and it took all my willpower not to do so, out of morbid/asshole curiosity.
@hortense: Is that in any way true?! If so, as a Canadian, I'm twice as embarrassed that our 18-year-olds guzzle that shit. I was intent on blaming American liquor corps.
@Sev: They're big in the UK. I don't know about here. When I was in high school I drank a lot of Bud Light and Mike's Hard Lemonade. I don't remember seeing those around.

"Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan."
If this campaign had been really popular, Bacardi'd be claimin' it.
Whatever.

Hopefully Bacardi and other companies take note next time they think about creating a campaign like this.

This model's photos are on iStockPhoto, which means it's likely she (and her photographer) has no idea where her image is being used.

I was inappropriate on Bacardi O3. Drank a whole 6-pack and then shenanigans and debauchery ensued.

I would like to see how the people who created the campaign look like. Yes, I am spiteful.
