    Unfortunate caption indeed. But I am endlessly thankful that she won't have to constantly relate to toys that look nothing like her. Sure there was always a niche ethnic doll market but this is mainstream - kids of every background will want to join in the fun.

    You know when I was a kid in my dreams I was always white with long straight hair. And when I dreamt of having children they were always white. Can you imagine the sense of identity loss that comes with living and breathing in an environment that you have to struggle to relate to.

    Small steps of progress but progress all the same.

    @Coup d’état: im so glad i'm not the only person who does/did this. When i was younger, I would sometimes forget I was black until some idiot would unceremoniously remind me I was the only one in whatever group of people I was playing with.

    When you are bombarded with the same types of images non-stop, especially at such a young age, I think it is difficult to differentiate between your reality and the reality being portrayed in the mass media culture.

    I can sympathize. Before the Little Mermaid came out I thought that having a fish tail was weird.

    (In all seriousness though, this little girl is adorable, someone should have been reassuring her that she's gorgeous way before this.)

    @Rooo sez BISH PLZ: There's TONS. They have some on the Disney Store website but going into the actual Disney Store, there's a whole two sections devoted to the movie. Multiple dresses, accessories, dolls, figurines, plushes, play sets. collectibles, etc.

    @mbprice: You need a dose of Roger Federer. I'm talking scruffy, sideburned, Guga-playing Roger, before "the haircut".

    It's not just because he's one of the world's two best tennis players and worth about $50 million and speaks three languages fluently and can dance that I think he's one of the Planet's Yummiest Men.
