@andonthatnote loves all you fucking dykes: Damn you're lucky. I got sick off a stromboli when I was ... 11? and couldn't eat Italian food for a month. I still have to severely limit my intake of melty cheese.

Fourteen years later, I still pick the cheese off my pizza as a result. I typically stayed away from it in college. Yes. No pizza. In college.

Due to a stomach virus, I can never again enjoy Hint of Lime Tostitos or mint-chocolate milk. I probably should have never eaten those two things in combination in the first place. At any rate, because of said virus I threw up all over the women's community bathroom in the dorm I was living in at the time. I fucking hated being in that dorm, so the vomit-fest was one of my crowning achievements that year.

This isn't alcohol-related, but it's still pretty gnarly: My ex got spinal meningitis at age 4 immediately after eating his first Egg McMuffin. McDonald's had just introduced them (which tells you how old my ex is), he saw a billion ads for them, and begged his mom for one. The Egg McMuffin wasn't to blame for the blinding headache, high fever, and massive nausea--just lousy timing. However, his body associated the smell, the words, McDonald's commercials, etc. with the onset of meningitis. He's spent the past 35+ years getting queasy at any of those triggers.

Well let's see....Never vomited much during my drankin years, and the occasions I did, I can't remember. BUT!! One time when I was eighteen or nineteen and took ecstasy just about every weekend, we'd had chinese takeout earlier in the evening, and it decided to come rocketing back up that night. It was not enjoyable. Another time years ago, I ate an entire bowl of slightly burnt popcorn which I loved (at the time...)before taking the first birth control pill of the new month. I woke up around five the next morning and it, too, decided to come rocketing back up from whence it came. ALL of it. Oh my God it was the most horrid shit I've ever experienced. I can't even stomach the smell of burnt popcorn since then.

Oh and for the record-My wino friend got hold of me earlier this year and I drank more pink truck than anyone ever should. The next day...well. The next day included wine vomit, wine diarrhea, and the smell of putrid wine in my nostrils and sinus cavities. It was the 2nd worst sick of my life, the first being nuclear food poisoning from a roastbeef sandwich.

Oh and also, drinking half a bottle of fancy organic vodka made me barf up sushi. That was pretty bad.

The first time I had Jell-O shots, they were the double sized ones that you really need to dig out of the cups. They were made with Bacardi, and that was, go figure, the first time I puked from drinking. Go figure that I can't even smell Bacardi without "Back that Azz Up" swirling in my mind, with visions of puking behind my frieds car in the freshman parking lot.

Also kashi almond granola bars, binged on those once drunk, puked them up. I bought one a year later and it tasted how it had tasted coming up.

I have only just started being able to drink vodka again, after ingesting liters of £3.99 Grant's The Exciting Vodka! during my teenage years.

That shit tastes the same as how paint thinner smells, especially coming back up.

Oh and I have a weird aversion to spaghetti marinara after contracting food poisoning from it in Germany. I refused to eat the sausage in tomato broth I was offered as a 'vegetarian option' when I was on tour there, and my one meal in four days was said spaghetti at a roadside diner. How the fuck can you get food poisoning from spaghetti in sauce! My friends said it was God telling me to eat meat...But I got them back by puking in the bus. Double edged sword for teh win!!!

I once ate a cornish pasty from Gregs (British people in the north of england will know what the heck im talking about) and was promptly very very ill with flu for the next week, needless to say just the mere smell of one now turns my stomach ugh!

As a teenager i once got very very very sick from Sangria - seriously to this day if i so much as see fruit pieces floating about in a punch bowl i feel a bit sick blergh!

Drinking and vomiting hasn't ruined any food for me, but it did kill my love for whiskey. Sad times. A friend of mine always tells the story of how he had the flu as a little boy, ate an omelet for breakfast, and threw it up in church. He can barely look at omelets today. I'm not sure what would be worse- not being able to drink whiskey or not being able to eat omelets.

@Abra: I can't drink whiskey. It was the first thing I ever got drunk on New Year's Eve 1992

aged 14.

I drank a mugful of Black Bush in about 20 minutes, threw up on myself at a friend's house and to hide the smell of vomit, she poured instant coffee granules over the sick and me. I have never drunk whiskey since and I'm none too fond of coffee...

I love Vietnamese food (I mean really really love it, and was deprived from it for the most part during the 10 years I spend in the Midwest), but Thanksgiving weekend we ordered out and I got food poisoning.

I had an opportunity to eat it at Xmas (and in Paris no less, where it is awesome!), and had to decline. This aversion better wear off!

@formergr: Oh, man. I adore Vietnamese food (about as much as you do, sounds like) and have been deprived of it for the past 7 years in Idaho. I cannot imagine the torment of having it available but not being able to eat it. You have my sympathies!

I once swore off Sprite for 4 years after horking it up almsot right after drinking it (in an effort to calm an upset tummy) and realizing it was still fizzy when it came up. *shudder*

The only thing alcohol ever ruined for me was a particular type of alcohol. The year: 1996. The alcohol: vodka. The scene: me, prone on the bathroom floor (the tiles were nice and cool), praying for the spinning to stop. I cannot after that so much as look at a bottle of the stuff without gagging. Fast forward to 2006, I discover The Vodka Martini. Vodka, unruined!

@SomeAuthorGirl: Oh oh! I just remembered another, even worse episode in 1996 (a banner year in SomeAuthorGirl's life) that involved red box wine and puking into the wastebasket next to my bed. And when I say into, what I really mean is kind of everywhere but in the general direction of said wastebasket. Did it ruin red wine for me? Yes, for about 6 years. And I couldn't look at a wine box for the next decade either.

Wow, I hope that my daughter doesn't find out anything about 1996 and her mummy till I'm dead.
