The crusade of New Jersey responding ignorantly to Assata Shakur continues; this week Kean University cancelled Common as their commencement speaker because of his 2000 song, “A Song for Assata,” detailing how Shakur was framed by New Jersey State Police and later found asylum in Cuba.
UC Berkeley's Black Student Union want to rename a campus building after Assata Shakur, a former Black Panther who was framed, convicted and jailed for killing a New Jersey cop until she fled and found asylum in Cuba in the 1970s. Naturally, Fox News is confused, but mostly upset. As Fox News usually is.

As of yesterday, former Black Panther and member of the Black Liberation Army Assata Shakur became the first-ever woman to be added to the FBI's most wanted terrorist list. She is currently 66 years old and living in Cuba where she has been granted political asylum.
