Cooking question: I want to make brussels sprouts today, probably roasted with some oil or sauteed with a little butter and whatever else I can find, but here's the problem - when I gave my ingredients request to the fam, I didn't specify fresh brussels sprouts, so now I have two giant bags of frozen brussels sprouts. Can I just steam the frozen brussels sprouts in the microwave, and then halve them and roast them? Will that work?
P.S. Anna, I will be smiling all the way to Christmas thanks to these turkey hands. Brilliant.
@jigglyball: Please don't! I did that last year and they were MUSH! So, don't roast them, but if you defrost them a little bit and then saute them you should be fine. Also, the most delish thing ever? Sprouts sauteed with lemon juice, white wine and toasted pine nuts. Seriously, good eats.
@jigglyball: if you have time to thaw them completely, then really dry them maybe you could saute them in a hot pan on the stove and get a little color on them?
@all: Thank you so much! Here's my plan: I'm going to simply defrost them (in a colander if it's not already in use, in the microwave if necessary), and then saute them on the stove with some delicious things. Seriously, thank you all for the advice. Happy Thanksgiving!
@jigglyball: This will probably be too late to help today, but my favorite new thing to do with brussels sprouts is to sautee them in olive oil until their crisp/tender and then add proportional amounts of soy sauce and brown sugar and let simmer just long enough to thicken and carmelize a little bit. NOM NOM NOM!!!
@The Day of Contentious Conviviality: Oh wow, that sounds fantastic. The sprouts today have already been cooked and eaten, but this will be my recipe next time around. Thank you!
I think I found my calling-- working in the Etsy office. I am not sure what my position would be, but I'm not going to let such a small trifle get in the way of my destiny. #safeforwork
I used to work for a toy company and there were toys everywhere, in fact we sometimes had to kick and push our way through piles of games and toys to get through a doorway. But I was rarely allowed to play with them! I hope, like me, when the cat's away, the mice at Etsy play! #safeforwork
@rodmanstreet: I work for a rare book and manuscript dealer. My office is a bibliophiles dream! I've been here for 6 years now so I am almost totally desensitized. Boo to that! I hope the Etsy people are wonderfully craft-tastic. #safeforwork
I am swooning over that kitchen, which is nicer than my tiny apartment kitchen and my office kitchen (office kitchen beats apartment kitchen because there is a dishwasher here, and a toaster). Seriously, how can they have bad days at that place? #safeforwork
