    She should have insisted on a condom. Generally people who volunteer for an AIDS center are HIV positive, common sense says that in this day and age, there should be no such thing as unprotected sex. He should get thrown in jail for attempted murder, that's for sure.

    @trublusu: Whatever. The man is 47 years old--not the face of AIDS. And this woman did show precaution by requiring he show PROOF of his HIV negative status. Who would anticipate an AIDS clinic volunteer would FORGE documents and lie repeatedly? Plenty of your fellow Jezebels are in monogamous relationships and do NOT use condoms with far less diligence than this woman.

    I wonder if he went in the deep end and went all HIV denialist. For those not in the know, those are people that state that HIV doesn't lead to AIDS and it's just an innocent virus and AIDS is actually caused BY THE ANTIVIRAL DRUGS. Of course, it's the fault of scientists and doctors being in the pocket of big Pharma, and callously taking money while they know people are dying.


    Christine Maggiore is one such AIDS denialist, had her daughter DIE of suspiciously AIDS like symptoms after delivering her naturally without precautions and then breastfeeding her. She obviously still maintains it wasn't AIDS or the HIV+ status that killed her kid.

    It worries me what kind of bad publicity this gives HIV clinics and AIDS centre volunteers...I hope people don't look at this one case and think they are all as crazy as this guy.

    This story hit me where it hurts. A few years ago, a beloved friend of my family died of AIDS, which her husband gave her after fucking every cheap hooker in Miami without protection. The shittiest part is that even though he had HIV longer, she died first. I'm not even sure if that asshole is still alive, since I moved away shortly after her death. RIP, Mrs. Lopez

    @FuryOfFirestorm: Oh my god, that is terrible. And I was just thinking that this NY Post story makes me happy that my ladyparts are for one trustworthy man only and I am out of the "scene." And then there is this terrible story about your family friend - my god. Even when you think things are okay... There aren't words to describe the level of asshole that man achieved. I am so sorry.

    @FuryOfFirestorm: My mom's best-friend-since-high-school had a similar story. She was married to a doctor from a socialite family, was his nurse, and had 2 kids (the oldest is 26 now). The goddamn asshole gave her AIDS by sleeping all over the place. And who died first- she did.

    @SarahMC: I have no idea. Me and her kids went to the same high-school, but I haven't talked to them since.

    And his family is full of jerks. The oldest girl (yes, both girls) is brunette and his family treats her like shit because she isn't blond like her younger sister. And all this in Puerto Rico, land of 'we're all fucking mixed, people!'

    Some facts:

    1. If the guy is HIV+ and in treatment with a period of time with no viral load, the woman will probably not contract HIV. (6 months or more with no viral load = less than 2% chance of transmission.)

    2. HIV is far from a death sentence, if you have access to anti-retrovirals and stick to your dosing schedule. Atripla is especially easy to take.

    3. The guy should go to jail for at least 30 years.
