As lame and Spinal Tap as that pageant dad is, I have to give him some credit for being invovled in his daughter's life. You almost never see a really masculine dad invovled in pageants. Which, whatever, I would prefer no pageants, but if we must, it would be nice to see dads of all types supporting their kids.

I was surprised you didn't give TL: I'm Polyamorous its own post. The two girls from the other storyline were making me nuts. They could not hug without making "Mmmmm. Mmmmm." sounds. It was so strange and forced. They sounded like Bender from Futurama when he gives hugs.

@vulcanized: I was just thinking that! The dad isn't just involved, but excited. And as lame as "I'm getting my nails done, my hair...I'm going to the fashion show!" is, it is certainly better than "Don't be tardy to my party!"

@vulcanized: Once in a while, there will be some cool parents on Toddlers & Tiaras. Besides Spinal Tap dad, there was a dad a few weeks back, plus sweet little Isabella's mom last week who still wanted her daughter to "look like herself" under the makeup.

I agree with you wholeheartedly--I prefer no pageants, but supportive parents are always awesome.

Did anyone else see that polyamory true life? Maybe I'm just old and crabby in my old-ness but all the people featured seemed just awful. Like just, vapid and horrible.

ETA: full disclosure I missed the last 20 minutes or so, so its possible one of them like, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity or something and I missed it.

@bluebears: No, but there was a group tantra session. That's kind of the same, only less building and helping people and more dry humping. So really, not the same at all.

@bluebears: Yeah, that episode was not my favorite. It really made people in polyamorous relationships look pretty horrid and shallow. I mean, yes, it's MTV, but seriously? They couldn't find anyone more charming to follow around?

@bluebears: i thought it was terrible and a really bad representation of people in polyamorous relationships. to me, they all seemed jealous and awful.

i have some friends who are polyamorous and they are wonderful people who are able to find equilibrium in whatever relationship they're in. it's fascinating, actually.

but my friends are not the type of people to go on reality shows, either, so i guess there's that.

@bluebears: the all male poly just tried to add another guy then got rid of him because one of them was jealous that the new one had gotten close to one of the original ones. so they kicked him out and their final solution? get three beds. yeup.

as for the two girls with the one boyfriend and the other trying to get a boyfriend, they had a tantra session then went to a costume party then diana (was that her name?) was just creepy and talked about the 'family' and then the redhead got rid of the guy she was seeing and her and diana have been dating for almost a year.

i didnt' really like the episode but it was really hilarious due to the peoples personalities.

@Beets.Go.On is the Fat Yogini: Ugh. I hate all forms of spanking. Some people may be able to use it effectively and in extreme moderation, but it is completely off-limits with me should I ever have kids. My husband and I both dealt with abuse and I don't want it to perpetuate forever.

She actually caught him exactly once in his entire adolescence and she was more surprised than him about it

@EndangeredRed: My brother-in-law is right on with the amount of corporal punishment. He only uses it when his son is doing something that would cause serious pain to himself like running into the street, reaching for the stove, running by the pool, etc. I think that's the only time when it is remotely appropriate, associating slight pain and surprise with big-time pain.

@Beets.Go.On is the Fat Yogini: My dad is a large Italian man and he used this giant wooden spoon to make big pots of sauce. He also used it to scare the bajeezus out of us when we were being awful. I don't recall him ever using it on us, but one time he was yelling at us for staying out until all hours of the night and slammed it down on the kitchen table for effect. It worked.

@Beets.Go.On is the Fat Yogini: I know a few parents like this, who deem it necessary in certain situations and are very sparing and reasonable in their use of it. Unfortunately for us, our associations with spanking is so connected with anger and extremes that I don't trust myself to not let it get out of hand. I think my parents truly believe they used it appropriately, but I'm certain they didn't.
