From the article, "it's hard to imagine HTZ's fratastic businessman clientele organizing a boycott over a guy who allegedly acted out his "boyhood fantasies."
I know plenty of straight men who eat at Hooters and would not support an organization that turned a blind eye to rape, sexual harassment, and blackmail. Objectification is awful, but it's not criminal, this establishment's action were.

I don't think I have the psychological fortitude to ever work at a place like Hooters or HTZ (assuming I was desperate). I can't even fathom how much verbal harrassment, inappropriate touching, and sexual harrassment those women have to endure--both from patrons and co-workers. And that isn't even factoring the rape allegations.

@Tchotchke: During college, I worked as a "shot girl" at a club in New Orleans. Job duties: walk through the crowded floor with a tray of shots in a skimpy outfit.

There was a great deal of inappropriate remarks etc. I was only touched a few times-- the bouncers were really good about keeping an eye out and booting anyone who made physical contact. But it was demeaning to say the least. Easily made $500-$1000 every weekend, so I put up with it long enough to cover my living expenses for the year/ and part of my tuition. Not exactly proud of it.

@Tchotchke: In undergrad I had quite a few waitressing jobs, at places like Chili's, and even wearing jeans and a t-shirt in a "family" restaurant people (men) still said really fucked up shit to me. All under the guise of "flirting." It sucks.

@Tchotchke: It's actually quite fun if you imagine all of your patrons have two-digit IQs. I bartended through college and, while I wasn't wearing bikinis and there wasn't an HZ or Hooters vibe, I was not exactly modestly dressed. It probably helped that I'm built like Xena (Warrior Princess!) and don't take no guff.

@bluebears: i second that. being in the service industry means you're obligated to talk to people, and some guys take weird advantage of this!

just the other day i was at a wedding, and a single friend was relentlessly hitting on the waitress assigned to our table - and all the guys were giving him tips on how to get her in bed (obviously without knowing if she has a SO, or picking up the signs that she was just not into it). i had a mini freak out and told them she's just doing her job, and to give it the hell up.

awkward, but none of them had to ever clear plates while dodging stupid innuendo after innuendo before ;)

@curiousgeorgiana: I used to work at a restaurant/bar at an expensive golf course in NC. Men would come in after playing 18 holes and get wasted at the bar while trying to flirt with me all the time. My favorite exchange occurred when some mid-40s guys (I was 22 at the time) started propositioning me and asked me to meet them at the local bar. I was just like "Sure... and I'll make sure to invite your wives too!" They just laughed and kept on hounding me. Some people have no shame.

We had another regular customer who used to call me over the table and compliment me on my "Italian eyes". I'm surprised he knew what they looked like, considering his eyes never left my breasts.

I knew there had to be a reason I get so skeeved out when I pass this place in Times Square. But can we talk about the photoshop on the red-swimsuit girl? They basically erased a big portion of her back in a "swoop" to make her look improbably thin.
