@yvanehtnioj: I think it's an American flag with another (the white star on a big red field) hanging right next to it. Is there perhaps some sort of Army flag like that?

I don't think she looks completely retouched. If they did work on her, they did it very subtly.

I'm sorry, but there is no way these two images are related. The lighting on her face is too radically different, her smile isn't the same, her eyes are...

wait, wait. I just reread the article, it says "an" unphotoshopped picture. Ok, that makes more sense, my bad. It's just a bit confusing to have that unrelated image posted after having described the original picture of the photoshopped one.

For those who are saying it looks so different:

I don't think the unretouched photo is the same one they used for the new photo on top. If you notice, they say "here's AN unphotoshopped photograph." Not "the" but "an."

Ha! So in addition to changing the background, they made her face paler, shinier, and gave her completely fake hair. It's the hair that's getting me-- it's like a virtual toupee!

There are too many things that are different between the two (and I'm having Highlights magazine flashbacks from trying to spot them, next I have to play Goofus and Gallant).

@formergr: Yeah, that can't be the original picture, since the Army said, "In the original image, "The general appears to be sitting at a desk with a credenza and bookshelf behind her."

As an Army brat I am so proud to see this. I love that the Army has the first woman four star general. I told my daughter this today and she yelled. I am very sure that my dad would be very pleased also if he had lived to have seen this occur. He was very progressive in his beliefs and felt that women were just as capable as men to fight and lead and could not understand why the military continued with the archaic stance that women should be kept from the front lines.

@RedHotz: I really hope what I am saying is understandable as I am on medication right now for my regular stuff as well as pneumonia.

Also my daughter is up in arms with the military's stance on women as she will enter the Navy next year once she graduates.
