I have to say: How weird would that be? To have the world begin to sort of venerate your mother, because they've heard about you and like you so much.

Which is not to say that I don't think she was probably kind of fabulous -- I mean! I read the books, so I certainly have the impression that she was! -- but as her child, wouldn't that just be very... odd?

@ellaesther: Mmmmmm...not particularly. We think he's a great man and he's already contributed so much to society...and she made him who he is. A lot of famous and accomplished people feel very naturally that all credit given them is due to their mothers and say so publically all the time!

This is why it always confuses me when people say they don't understand why Catholics venerate the Virgin Mary.

If I could choose my mother's clothing display, it would include: The early years: the yellow velveteen tunic outfit with the rhinestone moon applique, accessorized with the navy vinyl boots that always dyed her legs blue for a couple days. The hippie years: The gauze daishiki she sewed herself and then embroidered with whimsical mushrooms. The mature years: The emerald green hat she wore at my wedding. Damn, she was fierce.

i don't think i've ever been as excited and optimistic about the potential for the U.S. to actually do the right things, as i am with this incoming administration. i'm really looking forward to hillary taking the word to places like congo~~ that stuff has REALLY got to stop!

It's interesting to consider that we have had Condi Rice in the State Department who doesn't even acknowledge that her upbringing was any different from any given white male's...well white male's who ice skate, but you know what I mean.

But now I'm all excited about having a woman as head of the State Department! Go Hillary!!!
