Suzanne Somers' comment is disrespectful, in poor taste and ignorant -- as if he had a choice? Pancreatic cancer has a high mortality rate, and he already outlived all expectations.
And didn't he refuse pain medication in order to make most of the months he and his wife and family had? He lived and died with so much grace, and Suzanne Somers should not use his death as an opportunity to put herself into the spotlights.
Hey, Suzanne, what do you think Botox is made of? Butterflies and fairies? Oh, but I forgot--having a face frozen in 1971 is much more important than someone with a terminal illness trying to survive long enough to spend some more quality time with their family.
Bitch.
Also, Martha, I agree with you on KMart and all, but perhaps the best person to give advice on being careful is the one who ISN'T a convicted felon. Mmmkay?
Wow Chrissy...I mean Suzanne. Lemme just explain something to you. Come over here to camera three.
Cancer is evil. It is an attack on your body by your body and therefore it's very nature is both unfair and harsh.
Unfortunately, Cancer doesn't respond to vita-shakes and broccoli. I wish it did but no, alas, it doesn't. You can try to live healthier to avoid it but as cancer is mostly unpredictable - as you can get Cancer due to your lifestyle choices (drinking, smoking, rolling around in uranium) or through the simple fate of being with the genetic propensity for it.
Please see above when I mention how unfair it is.
Also - Tact, according to MW - definition two- is "a keen sense of what to do or say in order to maintain good relations with others or avoid offense" and Suzy Q you've managed to FAIL at that.
FINALLY someone has figured out the cure for cancer. Just get rid of the toxins, add in nutrition- who knew?! I think we all know who'll be winning the Nobel Prize in medicine this year...
I am a child of that Sacred Heart (I was actually in high school while she was too), and I call bullshit on the Lady Gaga story for another reason: there are only two nuns left at Sacred Heart, and at least one of them would have found the whole thing hilarious.
Someone explain to me where Lindsay Lohan's money comes from that she can travel the world and hit the clubs every night. She hasn't made a movie in three years, right? Are companies really seeking her out for sponsorships? Did she invest really well? I am curious!
Also, Jon Krasinski, we don't want The Office to go away either! I'm glad we're all on the same page.
Joel McHale, I missed last night's premiere of Community but I have DVR-ed it just because of you.
Martha Stewart, I have no opinion of you but right now, you should shut it.
That's pretty shitty of Martha to dog Kmart like that. They did carry her line for a decade plus, way to insult everyone who shops there. And honestly it's not like Home Depot is so clean. It smells like wood and the orange hurts my eyes.
Also, as much as J. Simp annoys, there's no evidence that she stood there saying "Meh, I don't care" when a coyote ran off with her dog so I don't think it's fair to say she wasn't careful.
I feel really bad for Jessica Simpson. My cat disappeared earlier this year and we're fairly certain a coyote got her (and I live in the suburbs of NYC, not the canyons of LA--coyotes are everywhere these days).
As a child of the Sacred Heart, I'm calling bullshit on the Lady Gaga story. First of all, Sacred Heart girls are punk rock and have been for centuries. We include Jenny Sanford, Vivien Leigh, Gloria Vanderbilt, Dianne Feinstein, all the Kennedy women, and a host of other scary-smart ladies unafraid of controversy. Religious of the Sacred Heart are a progressive, non-diocesan order dedicated to female empowerment and social service via the education of girls. Because they are independent, they have openly gay faculty and mandatory sex education (real sex education, not abstinence). They are NOT cloistered habit-wearing nuns shocked by the real world. My own headmistress had a Yale MBA. What I've heard from CSH-NY is that everyone gets a massive kick out of Lady Gaga. Shut up, New York Post.
@ChildBride: Also went to a Sacred Heart school! Staff very no-nonsense, but intellectually-driven curriculum and not afraid of discussion (with a handful of notable exceptions).
Also, it's interesting that Suzanne Somers rails against injecting toxins into the body for medical reasons, but has no problem with stuffing her cheeks full of collagen and dying her hair with chemicals.
I don't get celebrities who want to adopt children who have parents who are just unable to care for them. Why not pick a child that is an orphan or has been rightfully removed from parental care?
Like Madonna's case, if you are soooooo rich, why not just give the existing family a big chunk of money to allow the child to go back to the family?
EJ and partner can legally adopt in U.K. As a gay couple, there are no restrictions for them.
@alexburrito: There are quite rightly AGE limitations and Elton is FAR too old to adopt a small child. At 47, I think David might be as well. It's not as if either already have a track record in raising toddlers. Moreover,Elton has had well publicised health problems. A grandmother in her 40s(!) was refused permission to raise her own grandchildren on those very grounds recently in the UK.
@Rare Affinity: I understand about age limitations! My husband and I adoped a child at ages 54 and 45 respectively. And it is different, but not necessarily harder, when you are older. We have different physical limitations that parents in their 20's, but we are more financially secure, more confident about ourselves and our parenting, and more patient. I *needed* my 20's and 30's to work out myself - I wouldn't have been as attentive to the needs and education of a child.
Adoptive parents are held to a higher standard than birth families and those that can make alternate arrangements due to their financial circumstances. If EJ wanted, he could arrange egg donor and surrogacy and no one would prevent it due to his age. (At least in the U.S. Are you in the U.K?)
(No first time parent has any track record of raising toddlers.)
Dear Suzanne Somers,When my best friend's grandpa was diagnosed with a fairly common, and treatable cancer, her mom insisted that he try alternative therapy.
They went to a Mexican Holistic treatment centre. They had him do a cleanse. He ate nothing but fruit and vegetables, he took supplements, and exercised.
I'm sure he would tell you how nice it was, but he can't. Why? Because he's dead. Not getting proper treatment for his cancer resulted in him dying. Of cancer. Placebo effect can only get you so far.
My grandmother died of lung, heart, bone and breast cancer (she got the quadruple whammy, that's for sure) 12 years ago. Her surgery was barbaric and her treatment was almost inhumane. She lived about 10 months after the surgery, and watching her dying days will always haunt me. She needed a new lung, a new heart and about a half-dozen other new body parts. At no point did I ever think "All she needs is a good dump and an orange."
Suzanne Sommers, if you can show me the first person to be cured of cancer by taking a 3-week long bowel movement and asparagus, then you're allowed to talk about cancer again.
