In reply to PajamaGrams: "The One Gift Guaranteed To Get Women To Take Their Clothes Off!"
I put my sweats/pajamas on almost immediately once i get home. if my poor boyfriend bought me a pair of pajamas that he liked, i'd be psyched, because then i wouldnt feel like such a freakin sclub.

in my family we call them yummies because they feel SO YUMMY when you put them on.

also, i want a wok for valentines day.

I don't know, Tatiana. Yes, the profiles with actresses are far too self-important and silly, but was the supermodel era any better? Are glamazons any more relatable? They became celebrities in their own right, as you remember, for posing for pictures.

I liked seeing Scarlett Johansson posing for American Vogue, for instance, since she actually had a body comparable to mine - I could suddenly see that I could look great in designer clothing, too. It's arguable that actresses shouldn't be instantly granted interviews and 5-page profiles, but yeah Tatiana, unfortunately us "5-foot-nothings" need ideas on how to dress too.

Maybe less heiresses and profiles on people we can economically relate to, as well, would be helpful. Not sure about it being a supermodel-exclusive venue, though.

@Beebs: I think whats needed is an even split. Sure some celeb profiles are fine but I CRAVE models like Crawford, Turlington, Campbell and the others. Even Moss - when there was only one like her but now that they all have no meat on them it's just become so....BORING!

To much of any one thing is never a good thing to be had....

@dreamypisces: Agreed. That Vogue Paris editorial with Crawford was stunning, especially because it was a woman we were looking at, not a 16-year-old. What I'm asking for is precisely what you said, by way of celeb profiles.. more diverse women, not just homogenous mannequins selected as if they were being pumped out of a factory.

I've seen Tatiana expressing views that were quite anti-diversity, unfortunately. I don't get how they fit in Jezebel, but whatever.

@Beebs: Anti-diversity? Excuse me? One of my biggest problems with American Vogue under Anna Wintour is the magazine's ambivalence about diversity and I never miss an opportunity to say so.

@TatianaTheAnonymousModel: Not racial diversity in models, diversity in terms of who can model for photoshoots in magazines. I remember you talking about "5-foot-nothings" who apparently were not good enough for their clothes as 6-foot-tall skinny glamazons. I think it's fine that you're proud of your figure and so on, but that comment was pretty offensive in my book.

(sorry to piss on another post of yours, tatiana - i love 99.99% of your work, i've been stabby mccrankypants lately because of the holidays)

helmut newton's leda and the swan as 70's porn is ridiculous. the 70s porn aesthetic is overdone, stale, and trite, and was so even in the early 90s (see: klein, calvin) though it has some interesting formal elements.

    this is edgy:

or how about this by francois boucher in 18th century france...

    suck it, helmut.

Tatiana, thanx for putting up the Helmut Newton swan copulation picture. After I read the article last night I was up half the night looking for it online, gave up, and finally just crossed my fingers that Jezebel would post it today.

Also, I look fwd to your posts with embarrasing enthusiasm. I think you are the coolest.

I have always loved that photgraph.

I think people want Vogue to be better because it is this grand dame, we can't think of the world without it, it's the New York Time of fashion magazines. It should be the best, which is why it is so sad that it's not.

I haven't opened the magazine in months, even though I subscribe. I was ready to let it run out, until I noticed I'm paid up through January of next year. Maybe I can reallocate the funds to the New Yorker?

Gonna have to disagree with you on the Leda/swan setup. It's gross, but not even compelling gross, just sort of stiff and awkward gross. And I'm embarrassed for the model. Yuck.

"For the December issue, it sent a writer off to discover the 'charms' of Wal-Mart and Target."

This reminded me of The Simple Life episode where Paris Hilton has to go to Wal-Mart and she asks, "What is Wal-Mart? Is that where they sell walls?" Ah, to be so out of touch with middle America must be fabulous.

Vogue is just as narcissistic as the socialites profiled within its pages: it has elevated itself so high that it actually believes that their fantasy will dictate reality. Trends have evolved as the magazine remains stagnant, and Vogue is reduced to a wailing Norma Desmond, forever waiting for its closeup.

I am older than most on this board and I have to say that I buy Vogue about 3 times a year and my lasp issue was the final straw- Never again.

It is literally reading the same issue over and over again and I feel that is is written soley for a select group of designers, staffers and Wintour circlers.

The models even look more bored than usual.

Wait, also, I am not sure if Jezebel covered this, but what is up with the highlighted quote about Michelle Obama? I can't find my issue right now, but it was something along the lines of "we can't wait to see how she decorates!"
