I just finished "The Sisters - Saga of the Mitford Family", so now I'm all "Oo ooo a Guinness/Mitford relation, OMG she looks just like them! Squeee!"
Such a dork. But Daphne is a beauty!
That story about 'Goods of Conscious' is very cool - now I want some. Can I afford them? *looks* Nope! But I suppose 'featured in Vogue' was a hint on that one. Still, is splendid.
@RubyPenelope: My favorite Filene's in White Plains closed last year when a (really, really beyond crappy) Nordstrom's Rack opened in the same building. I've been pissed ever since.
@hfree: I don't think my husband had bought a single article of clothing since the original Filene's Basement (in Downtown Crossing, Boston) closed - like two years ago.
I am still in mourning for the absolutely brutal automatic markdowns, and the hand-lettered signs on every table (which I understand were done in massive black marker by a art school grad; she had a little table in the Basement where she made signs, all day).
Seriously it was an iconic palace of discount retail - a massive underground shithole wherein gems could be mined by the patient and persistent. $40 Narcisco Rodriguez skirt! $35 Frye lace-ups! Cole Haan handbags in every color under the rainbow!
The greater Boston area, and the world, is poorer for its loss.
I have the Frye boots that were knocked off by Proenza Schouler. The are probably the highest quality shoe I own, and I adore them so much I wear them everyday during the winter (and sometimes in the summer). I have a feeling I would not be such a fan if they were $1,000 more.
@AmericanSplendor: I got the Harness 12R for Christmas last year. They're gorgeous, comfortable, and sturdy, and I never would have gotten them if they were $1200.
Whoa, I didn't know that Freja Beha Erichsen was a lesbian. For some reason I thought she was bi. My girl crush just turned into something a little more intense.
I like Charlize, but I really wish Vogue had given that cover to somebody more deserving? If you're going to put an actress on the cover why not Meryl or dare I say January Jones or Christina Hendricks. SOMEBODY different.
@SevenNationArmy is a ghetto whore goblin: Oh my god Christina Hendricks. I think I would die from the awesome.
But I do love Charlize. We are talking about the person chosen after Sienna Miller, I think this is clearly an upgrade.
The dress didn't make Michelle look fat, per se, but it did add some unflattering width to her lower half. The blood-on-night coloring didn't help matters.
I don't think it made her look fat, but I fully expect US Magazine to do "HOW MICHELLE GOT HER BODY BACK AFTER THE ELECTION!" any minute now.
Not that she ever lost it, really. Not that it would matter if she gained five pounds during a stressful election (I don't think she did). But for US, it would be a dream cover because it combines weight loss and the Obamas! Squee!
I know that Canadian-Kenyan cowboy-shirt guy; we sort of had a "thing" for a few weeks at university and then, for no reason that I could discern, he started, like, hiding in bushes when he saw me. Bless.

Edit: Conscience, Conscience.

Not to worry, I'm sure the pigs-in-blankets contained cleverly concealed macrobiotic ingredients.
