@shananigans aka cookie pants!: Me too! Congratulations to her. That's a cute and happy bit of news. I love how they keep hiding her bump on HIMYM. (A side note, NPH was fantastic in last night's episode....he's always good, but he was so pitch-perfect last night I nearly peed a few times).
If Drew Barrymore IN ANY WAY uses Cake's awesome song "Going the Distance" in her movie, I will be upset. It should not be tarnished with a cutesy romcom association.

It's *not* easy to adopt a kid from India so I don't know how that plan will work out - didn't Angelina say something about Madonna adopting from Malawi once? Like that she didn't understand not adopting somewhere where you could follow all the rules?
@SweetIo: which is why she didn't mention or put Brad Pitt on any of the documents for her adoption of Pax. Because - assuming I remember correctly - the Thai gov't doesn't approve of adoptions by unmarried couples. So even tho Angie *IS* part of an unmarried couple, she just pretended Brad wasn't there in order to get the kid she wanted.
My point: Angie's not above bending the rules to get what she wants either.
@bitchyolympian: Pax was adopted from Vietnam, and she did adopt as a single with a highly visible partner. Unmarried partners cannot adopt internationally at the same time, per US rules. But one can adopt overseas and then they can handle it however they want once they are home.
So yeah, she bent the rules. And she will have an increasing difficult time adopting as a single mother with 6 kids and two divorces, so we can expect more rules to break if she adopts again.
@midwesternmom: I'm really not sure she even bent the rules. Technically, she was an unmarried person when she adopted, and that is how she held herself out. As you said, there is absolutely nothing that prohibits her from doing so and then allowing him to adopt the child as a second parent when she returns home. It's done quite often, actually.
I don't know if India has limitations on the number of divorces or other children in the home. Some countries do, but others simply look at whether you have adequate income/assets to support the number of children in the home.
I'm not saying that rules have never been bent for her, but I don't think they necessarily have to be. My impression from the scuttlebutt within the international adoption community is that her adoptions have been pretty much by-the-book.
Angelina annoys me during every interview she gives, to the point where I turn off the tv if she appears. But that's really not fair. Angelina can afford the kids she has, has the resources to provide for them, and isn't significantly adding to the surplus population that has already hit it's tipping point. Also, I think Angelina might be mentally sound, but at the very least I know she is not obviously mentally ill and she does not openly lie to Ann Curry. There is nothing similar about these women beyond a lot of kids and ski-jump noses.
@ihateyourescalade: For a second, I thought the photo above was Nadya Suleman!
@Bunson: Um, she admitted that she once considered putting a hit on HERSELF in a twisted form of attempted suicide; she also checked herself into a mental hospital and even her dad outed her as having mental problems. So how is she mentally sound again?
@cointreau-teese: She seems to have worked all of that ourt prior to having children. Also I hate to say it, but I don't believe half her bull. Making out with her brother? Billy Bob Thorton? Please, it's called publicity stunts. I think honestly she hit a certain point where she didn't feel like she had to be a big weirdo anymore, so now she sits around watching Seinfeld reruns like other boring Americans. I don't give her that much credit.
What I will say though is a comparison to Octomom is a low blow.

Things to remember if you're a celebrity who choses to adopt:
- you should be using your vast resources to change the micro/macro economics of the country instead - unless you're Bono and then you should just pay your taxes - pick a child that did not arrive in this world with any living relatives; maybe look under cabbage leaves? - be sure that the child you are adopting is white enough/black enough/brown enough/disabled enough/disadvantaged enough/not from an economically depressed area which is being ravaged by disease/is at least ten years old - you're only allowed one child - ever - ensure all clothing worn by yourself during the process is neither too high or low end,too conservative or too slutty - be a good Christian. Only. - you can't have biological children after adopting
@BoomBoomBoo: -you are allowed one photo op per week--any more and you are just doing it for the publicity. -make sure you carry your child a lot, but not too often, or you will be smothering the child.
@BoomBoomBoo: Many of those rules apply to any adopting parent, right? "Oh you only want a baby? Selfish!" "You want a child without major disabilities? Jerk!"
The whole Angelina-Madonna adoption machine makes me think of my sister-in-law. After my wife had her two boys, her sister proceeded to have two of her own. Then when we married and had my daughter, my sister-in-law proceeded to go right out and get pregnant to try and have a daughter, which she succeeded in doing.
The whole idea of competing over procreation/having children is pretty sad.
@Eeva: Yeah, but that makes me wonder if there isn't some kind of subtle competition involved. Perhaps her Madgesty doesn't like feeling upstaged by Saint Angelina?
@NefariousNewt: Or maybe the fucking tabloids and gossip sites love the ideal of women in catfights over something - a man, kids, a role, whatever - and are creating this link between two women who have probably never met and just HAPPEN to be - allegedly - adopting kids at around the same time?
Don't buy into this bullshit, you're smarter than that.
@Eeva: Also, unless one of them has a spy in the other one's camp, it's highly likely that both of them have been working on the adoption for a while and the info is only now becoming public.
There actually is a lot of paperwork and whatnot in international adoption and it takes time, at least when it's done through official channels. In the past, Angelina has actually gone through the process just like anyone else, from what I understand. I have my questions about Malawi forcing Madonna to play by the rules, but if she wants to bring that child to the US, she's had hoops to go through here.

Are we gonna get ANOTHER diplomat plot? I mean really, Dick Wolf, come up with something new.
And, while you're at it, figure out a way to make the Benson-Stabler "are they gonna bone" tension compelling. Could you?
