As for the celebrity "death trend", I think all the theories mentioned here are true:
- It does seem like they've come in clusters this year, though I dunno if I'm imagining that.
- It does seem like a good chunk of them have been icons of the 80's. And those of us in the age range that consider this to be part of our formative years (like me) are the same folks commenting all about it on the interwebs.
- I totally agree that are just a LOT more people considered "celebs" these days with the internet culture, so the overall pool is larger. I mean 15 years ago, would very many people have actually known who DJ AM was? Probably just the die-hard Blink 182/Travis Barker fans.

But man, oh man, it was Michael and John Hughes that made this summer feel so bad. Two greats, one true icon. Both completely unexpected, both huge losses.
I would also argue that the unexpected death of Michael Jackson was the single greatest reason this felt like the summer of death. Not only did his death affect billions, but it's kept the topic of his death and death in general in the news.
For instance, I am watching TMZ and they are singing a parody song called "You Give Propofol A Bad Name." Y'know... because they're STILL reporting on his cause of death.

No "Road House curse!" on the internet yet?

Condolences on your loss, Kate -- no matter how long ago it was, your therapist really missed the damn point.

That statement would not be helpful for me either...it's just more sad. Look, it's inevitable! life sucks! not just for you! Doomdoomdoom!
Hit a nerve..
But people are having kids older and older(and maybe that's been increasing for a while now?) which, well, could make the 25 estimate more accurate..
