I'VE SEEN THIS! I'VE SEEN THIS! Oh my god, why have I been so busy today that I didn't see this earlier?!?!

The first time I saw the beer bike was in 2005, on my third (I think) trip to the city, and (importantly) my frist trip during the summer (I don't think the beer bike runs in the winter, I've never seen it). I was standing with my three friends at a water cab stand, trying to decide whether taking a boat-taxi around the gloriously sunny canals of Amsterdam, stoned as hell, was worth it (we eventually opted to walk instead) when suddenly the beer bike came rolling up the road behind us. I noticed it first, gurgled something incoherent (I kind of thought I was hallucinating it), and we all watched as they pedaled past, slowly, made a right turn and pedaled out of sight.

Then we lost it. I can't remember when I've laughed that hard.

When I visited Amsterdam I saw one of these rolling down the street piloted by a bachelor party of British dudes wearing aviator caps. Then one of them took off his pants (the aviator cap stayed on) and climbed on the roof. Then he fell off into the grass on the side of the road. Then his buddies kept pedaling and left him there. This all happened at noon on a Saturday, right across the road from the Rijkmuseum.

Good times.

For some reason this reminds me of living in Fort Collins, CO, home of New Belgium Brewery and their wacky beer and bikes antics.

Anyone ever been to a Tour de Fat? Costumes, bike parades, beer. Good stuff.

I have to pee like roughly every ten minutes after I drink any quantity of beer. I wouldn't do very well at sitting atop a tiny seat and being told to move my lower body about.

@tscheese: I waited around for a while to see if the Dutch-hate was going to start up again, but apparently this is more-loved idea than the scales in the one bench.

I have an agent (also known as a classmate) who's doing an internship in NY at the moment. She'll return in less than a month. We can totally set up a kidnapping scheme.

As for this beer bike thing, it's actually not too uncommon to see them around in spring and summer.
