I'm sorry, but I see women preformers do far worse, with less clothes. Until people become offended as this reality, I cannot place any weight in their objections. Gendered pearl clutching: obnoxious.

bah! I'm only offended because David Bowie and Brian Eno already did it. Then Madonna did it. It's the gross lack of originality that really sticks in my craw!
Oh for the love of fuck, Adam Lambert graduated from American Idol, the most Middle American, middlebrow and just plain middling of TV shows. If he managed to do that whole thing without giving into the urge to give Ryan Seacrest a wedgie or punch Simon Cowell, he can obviously be counted on to behave on TV.
And for those people that think he's trying "too hard", the kid was on American Idol. He should be proud of himself for standing out from the manufactured crap that amateur karaoke contest mass produces.
@kookla: I didn't think of it that way. I gave up on American Idol a few years back because of how safe it was. Lambert's attempt to shock so far hasn't come off as particularly natural or well thought out yet, but then that is true of many shocking artists when they first started out. It is a welcome departure from the cocoon of AI.
@Kilotwat: I totally agree with you on the safe part. That's why Kris Allen won. I think American Idol sticks to what is mainstream and then tries to piggy back onto controversy like Adam Lambert from a distance.
so apparently, the ridiculous content that GMA reports on a daily basis (various sex scandals, celebrity sex tapes and what not) just pales in comparison to what adam lambert might do on their show.
oh, wait a minute. the "controversial" content is only controversial if the straight, white, male demographic deems it to be so, which means if they don't think it's hot or titillating, it doesn't air. and that blessed demo can't handle the potential of two men kissing much less simulation of any kind.
@rednrowdy: But do they actually SHOW simulations of the sex scandals or play the sex tapes on their show? Discussing something is a lot different from visualizing it.
@smizmar: true, but my point is that all of those shows that air during daytime or during early primetime hours both discuss and show things that are far worse than anything adam lambert did onstage at the ama's AFTER 10 o'clock at night.
how many sex tapes do we have to hear about, let alone see edited for television? even with the naughty bits blurred out? regardless of the sexual orientation, content is content, and lambert knows when to stretch it and when to be reserved. the script he's reading from has been done before.
Only flake-based cereals should be served; Cheerios can symbolize puckered mouths or anuses. Don't even get me started about Froot Loops. Clusters in cereal are vaguely testicular and should be avoided.
All eggs must be accompanied with a meat product and vice versa. Sausage may only be served in patties, never links. Bacon should be cut into small pieces if it must be served.
Was no one from ABC at the AMA rehearsals? I understand that some parts of his performance made have been added at last minute or improvised, but I have a hard time believing that the producers didn't have some sort of idea of the type of performance he was putting on.
While this is dumb, I think the actual performance was ridiculous as well, especially in light of the issues he raised with Out and not wanting to appear "too gay." Mostly, in my mind, there's a difference between being sensational and *trying* to be sensational. One can be interesting, the other is usually the opposite.
Shakira was on last week, and her performance was a very different version of what she did at the AMAs. Most people tone it down for morning television. Assuming Lambert wouldn't is a bit crazy, considering that he spent weeks performing to "family friendly" crowds on Idol without ever shoving anyone's face in his crotch.
@hortense: Is it because one should assume stay at home parents are watching GMA with their small children that no one is permitted to anything frolicky in the morning? Or is this more a statement about Americans and sex regarding that it should only be presented at night, in the dark, in a heterosexual marriage bed?
There was a lady on the radio this morning complaining about the performance because her 2 and 3 year olds were watching. He performed at like 10:55 pm, right? WHY WERE YOU TWO AND THREE YEAR OLDS WATCHING?
Also: If they didn't want that type of performance on GMA, don't let him have dancers? Approve costumes first? Not that hard.
