Geez, Jennifer Aniston? Really? That woman is mediocrity personified. Now you've gone and linked that to your brand. Good job!

Glamour is aimed at adult women? Huh. I think the last time I read it was when I was 14.

I would prefer a reality show based on Jezebel's search for the American Sweetheart. Challenges would include eloquent rants, intelligent debate, quick witted commentary on photos and plenty of puns. It would also be a requirement that they never read Glamour.

Stuff like this just bolsters my belief that all reality TV shows and print media are controlled by the government.

Seriously. Anything that is "exuberantly cheerful, aggressively cheerful" has got conspiracy theory written all over it.

    Just sayin'...

It's tough out there, and everyone is trying to think of new and creative ways to stay afloat and remain relevant. I think it's cheesy, but I don't see how it's a bad thing. "American Sweetheart" is catchy and it resonates with the bulk of their demographic.

@Penny: I agree. This is definitely cheesy, but I think the idea is nice. Honestly, with all of the heinous things to criticize in magazines, the phrase "America's Sweetheart" ESPECIALLY when they say that they want diverse contestants, i waaay down at the end of that list.

Although I did not renew my Glamour subscription this year, I have to give them credit for TRYING. It really is not a soul-sucking experience reading this mag like it is cosmo, and I think that the message they send to women is ok (they are not all about diets, sex tips, and spending all of your cash) I just don't like them because they are a little fluffy.

Anyone who's interested in film history and the badass women of early Hollywood needs to read Without Lying Down... the book focuses on screenwriter Frances Marion, who wrote many of Mary Pickford's films.

I adore Pickford for her intelligence, incredible business savvy, and her wonderful acting. Her life was so incredible and should seriously be made into a film. It's so tragic that alcoholism controlled her life in her later years.

If anyone's interested in her, be sure to read her autobiography, Sunshine and Shadow!

I'm still upset that Pickfair was demolished. :(

She founded the Motion Picture Relief Fund, which in turn founded the Motion Picture Home. Without Mary Pickford, many retired actors, grips, stagehands, etc., would have a dismal end to their lives. Hail, Mary!

@hortense: One of those old movie channels, TCM or AMC, used to have Silent Movie Sundays every week starting at midnight. I used to stay up when I was in high school and watch them. I love that whole era of Hollywood, Mary Pickford and Lillian Gish and Clara Bow.
