The September issue of Vogue has a "2-For-1 Special" photo spread, shot in a supermarket by Steven Meisel and starring Amber Valetta and Kirsty Hume. The story is supposedly about dual-toned sheaths, but just like everything else this fall, it's about Mad Men! The retro housewife aesthetic. (Remember when Betty slapped the divorcée in the produce aisle on season one?) Anyway, inspired by LOLCats, here is another episode of LOLVogue. Stella McCartney & Friends Dress For The Party

How quickly Stella McCartney moves! Just here in New York for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala on Monday evening, last night Stella made her way to the left coast, where she hosted a screening of the classic Peter Sellers comedy The Party at her Los Angeles boutique. And yes, rest assured, famous friends followed: Charlize Theron, Emmanuelle Chirqui, Mika, Rashida Jones, Rosanna Arquette, Amber Valletta, Angie Harmon, China Chow and others. The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly, as always, is right after the jump.

The Good:
Who are you, gorgeous Anita Briem? And where can I get your flawless Grecian goddess gown?
Did you really think that Charlize Theron and Stuart Townshend were going to look bad? Seriously.
Easy, breezy, beautiful dress on Emmanuelle Chirqui.
Mika. Stripes. It's a good thing.
I really wish that Rashida Jones's dress either had both its straps or was strapless, but her looks is still a great balance between lovely and casual.
Normally, I would find it disconcerting to see a woman like Rosanna Arquette in a dress that looks made for a little girl...but damn, she looks great. Even if she's doing the pee-pee stance.

The Bad:
Amber Valetta fails to shine in awkwardly cut gold...lame?
Eliza Dushku's dress: the material looks a little Charlotte Russe and the fit looks a little inadequate .
Someone did not teach January Jones the cleavage-or-leg rule.

The Ugly:
No no no no no floral chiffon jumpsuits, Angie Harmon!
No no no no no teal tents, China Chow!

At Costume Institute Gala, The Good Superheroes Took A Fashion Flight Of Fancy

Okay let's cut to the chase: Last night. Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. Theme was "Superheroes." Everyone and their brother was there. I've broken the photos down into Good, Bad, and Ugly for your viewing pleasure. The Good — including Victoria Beckham, Christina Ricci, Diane Kruger, Iman, Mischa Barton, Amanda Peet, Scarlett Johansson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton and Claire Danes — begins after the jump; the Bad and Ugly to come later.

The Good:
Christy Turlington glows in a red dress in an unexpected silhouette.
Emily Mortimer went a little gladiator for the superhero theme.
Stella McCartney and Kate Moss shine perfectly.
Camilla Belle looks wrapped in clouds.
If I were Christina Ricci, I would never ever ever take this dress off. Ever. It is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. Love. Speechless. Sigh.
Diane Kruger looks a little bit like the Tin Man, but I love that she went for a short dress. Also, love love the shoes.
Iman. Always perfect. What else is new?
Kate Mara! Yellow! Yes! Yes!
Tom Cruise looks weirder than normal, but Katie Holmes looks fantastic, which of course I hate to say. But there's no denying all that red.
Dear Mischa Barton: Strip and give me that dress right now. Kthanxbai.
Please God let my face age like Natasha Richardson's.
Rachel Bilson looks like a total freak and I love. Clearly, she mistook "superheroes" to mean "Morticia Addams."
ScarJo is simultaneously old school and somewhat infantalized in her D&G but she looks hot, so good for her.
I still am not entirely sure who Taylor Swift is, but I like her chainmail-esque dress.
Sorry, you just can't hate on Victoria Beckham.
Emmy Rossum is a head-turner in this black-and-white floral frock.
Claudia Schiffer's dress is downright ethereal. Valentino is downright orange.
Ellen Barkin manages to always play it classy.
Jessica Stam is sorta a bad ass!

Past Tense Perfect: Floating Through History With Dior Couture

Is there anyone whose love of women matches that of John Galliano channeling Christian Dior? [Um, Jack Nicholson? -Ed.] Galliano's Fall 2007 couture collection for the House of Dior's 60th anniversary — shown in Paris yesterday — was one long and winding love letter to the female form and the way it has been encased, contoured, and costumed throughout history. But the bounds of history (or art history, more accurately, as evidenced by the insertion of an occasional paintbrush or palette as accessory) were rendered a little topsy-turvy. Opening with Gisele Bundchen in an iconic, full-skirted Dior suit, the show proceeded like Dorothy over the rainbow, progressing from black-and-white to full-blown Technicolor and alluding to some of the masterworks of Western art, from Fragonard to Monet to Velasquez and everywhere in between. And oh yeah, the best of the best from the golden age of the supermodel showed up to stomp around, including Amber Valetta, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, Stella Tennant, Erin O'Connor, and Linda Evangelista.
