Uh...I dunno how much MORE anxiety I could have had as a knocked-up teenager with an abusive boyfriend and a mother who hadn't yet realized her own potential, but my newborn baby was 8 lbs. even, dude. Healthier than a horse. Just saying.
WHERE'S MY FUCKEN WAFFLE ROBOT, DAMN IT?! #breakfast
Breakfast machines are a childhood fantasy of mine, but I wouldn't trust it to work. All I can think of is Jonathan Pryce holding his depressing coffee-soaked toast at the beginning of Brazil. #breakfast
I hope Alice Munro gets well very soon. Her books are the dominant placeholder on my favorite-books shelf- I feel like I'm constantly waiting for her next amazing story or book to come out. #breakfast
Re: the disparity between men and women at the top positions of law firms.
I will say this every single time, but it bears repeating.
NEVER, for the sake of your sanity and very belief in humanity, read the comments on Above the Law. It makes me weep for the profession I am currently killing myself to enter. #breakfast
@curiousgeorgiana: And you know I just did it anyway. There's even a warning on the site that the comments are hidden for your 'protection'. And I did it anyway. #breakfast
@curiousgeorgiana: I'll get right on that after I drill a hole in my head and pour bleach in, in an effort to erase the memory. It took pretty much about 6 comments. And I regularly read the comments on the NY Post site. #breakfast
Yes, but does it make waffles? Because if the answer is no, I shall continue my noble work until automatic waffle-makers are a reality for all who want them! #breakfast
Don't be fooled, this is just your classic prestigious literary awards set up for a no-holds-barred pay per view cage match. It's been done, Giller prize.
@Imogen Quest: I admit that it's a little silly to compare the two, although I am a huge Alice Munro fan and she wins every prize in my world. However, I disagree that we don't compare male authors- this happens all the time. People have favorite writers and contrast them with other writers.
@PilgrimSoul: gotta agree there. Munro is one of the best writers of the century, if not ever. and in terms of pitting writers against one another, male or female, i think it is more in fun than some serious thing that should offend anyone, Imogen etc.
@NellMood: People absolutely have favorite writers and contrast them with other writers, but I hear more of the "there can be only one!" nonsense as specifically regards women.
@NellMood: I was clearly misreading tone. It has not been, in general, an it-getting kind of day for me.
In my own defense: I have seen people argue seriously over less serious things than this on the internet. Even on Jezebel, though not as often.
It's more of a pulling an Oprah, no?
Pulling a Heigl would be dropping out because she thought her own stories stunk it up, but this suggests she didn't want to keep winning over and over, a la O at the daytime emmies.
@now it's just Aesop's Heatstroke.: Yeah, who is this "Alice Munro" person anyway? She should have been proud to just be part of the same profession as Atwood.
@now it's just Aesop's Heatstroke.: i have to throw in some alice munro love here though! we don't have to compare them negatively. atwood is a brilliant, brilliant novelist and poet, and munro is a brilliant, brilliant short story writer. can't they just both be awesome? because for realz, the bear came over the mountain might be about the most perfect short story i have ever read in my life.
I am so happy about this! Alice Munro is my absolute favorite writer- I have an enormous writer's crush on her. It's so great to see a female writer- and a short story writer!- recognized for their amazing work.
