    I hardly ever comment, but I was really happy to see (both in the report and mentioned here) the bit about female conductors, because it's an issue that's near and dear to me. In that I am a conductor, and a woman - and probably won't continue with it after college. But there's a big piece of me that desperately wishes I were more dedicated to the craft, because it's a glass ceiling that could use some serious smashing. To every single one of the (far too few) woman conductors/music directors out there - thank you for the work that you do.

    Speaking of smashing, and by that I mean getting smashed - Rachel Maddow, thank you for validating my primary non-musical hobby.

    I really need to figure out a way to get my stockbroker hubby to wear the mad men suit without him knowing it's a mad men suit. He calls his tie a noose and would rather be a history professor or a saucier in New Orleans as is... how can I sneakily do this? ;)

    Hey, Rachel and I have something in common! I took am ridiculously enamored with pre-Prohibition cocktails, and we both make them at home for ourselves!

    Generally, though, I suspect she's better at it than I am.

    @lalie (apologetic mess): more women behind the scenes in every aspect will help - especially when it comes to writing, producing, directing, and funding. as long as women in the audience are ignored, the sexism in the media will exist.

    Marin Alsop took the music director position at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 2007, a huge inroad for women. Unfortunately, it was a tempestuous appointment as it was done against the desire of the musicians (not because she was a woman).

    Rachel Maddow makes me want to start learning mixology as a hobby, too. I just love her unabashed love of cocktails- it's this perfect combination of being awesome and yet managing to make alcohol a nerd pursuit, too :)

    Also, I swear I'll come back and read the rest and comment on it all. The Maddow headline just grabbed me.
