Oldsmobile may do well to consider going into the other drivable rocket market.... I bet vibes are one of those products/services that actually become more popular in a recession. The car thing doesn't appear to be working out so well for GM, maybe it's time for a corporate re-do.... : )

While I agree that in the world as it stands today, women generally find themselves dealing with unintended pregnancies on their own (Usher? I love you!), but that is not how it should be, nor how it has to be. If society expected men to be in the lives of their children in the same way that they expect it of women, it would (by and large) happen (excluding fuck ups, of which there are many, of both genders).

As I believe I've already posted here, when my nine year old son said "Don't you have to be older than 18 to have a baby?", I not only gave him the "when-your-body-is-old-enough-to-have-sex..." talk, I also gave him the "always-wear-a-condom" talk, finishing up with the "and-if-you-get-a-girl-pregnant-it's-goin..." talk.

And he cracked up! As a nine year old should. But he already has in his head the notion that a baby is the responsibility of the person who supplied the semen, too. And by me, that's a good thing.

I wonder if there's another side to this advert. For example, in the same campaign, there are two ads where a guy is playing football and saying that he slept with a girl and wore a condom, and all his friends are really impressed. Then there's one with the exact same scenario, except he didn't wear a condom and his friends tell him he's an idiot. There's a similar dual-sided advert for women.

I'm not a big fan of this advert (especially all the vomit going into her mouth), but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a companion version aimed at men.

@HeatherNumber1: How likely is it that the drunken guy would quit school and take a shitty job to support his one-night-stand baby? It's much more likely that the mother would make sacrifices on behalf of the oops baby than the father. In that respect, the ad reflects reality. Perhaps it also reinforces the stereotype that unwanted pregnancy is a woman's problem. But the sad truth is that society has yet to hold both genders accountable.

Neither girl nor boy was thinking straight because they were both deee-runk! How is the drunk boy any more able to think rationally than the drunk girl? If anything, this is an ad against getting trashed, because there's no such thing as reliable consent or protection when you can't remember your own name.

@RhymesWithSilver: Fine, where's the commercial that tells boys not to get drunk, as they may rape a girl without knowing it (or get raped themselves - it does happen). Unfortunately, those stories are unacceptable so they don't get told.

I applaud the fact that they're at least teaching about condoms and not preaching about not having sex.

But, I agree with a lot of the comments, as much as it sucks us ladies get all of the crap and none of the glory.

It's aimed at women and what women can do to make better decisions for themselves. I have no problem with this. We didn't complain about the French condom commercial with the little kid freaking out in the grocery store (Je veux les bonbbons!)saying "Why is the guy alone responsible for using condoms!!!"

The UK government believes the Daily Mail when it comes to women and booze...no matter what the consequences it's the fault of women who drink!

I'm surprised they haven't made an advert with Eve turning the apple into cider to really hammer home the point...
