Mother of God, I wish the whole thing were archived somewhere. I hung with Courtney for several hours until I felt my muscles start to atrophy and realized I could not justify watching any more TV that day.
in 2002 I was totally hating her (after very much liking her and then feeling bad for her) and yet, I watched this entire fucked up 24 hours - most awesome
btw - I came full circle with this woman - only hope she can keep it together to do at least ONE more awesome thing to shut the traps of her naysayers
@Scout: Have you heard any of the new songs on her myspace? : [www.myspace.com] -- PCH and Car Crash are my faves right now.
On the strength of the songs she's already put out, this is going to be one amazing album. However, what makes me sad is that her histrionics have made it impossible for the world to separate her persona from her music, and some truly genius art gets ignored in the process.
People will never stop ripping on her, though. She could cure cancer and the haters will never let up. There are STILL conspiracy theorists out there who swear that she murdered Kurt Cobain. Really, dudes? It's like 2009. Get over it.
I actually have heard a couple of the songs and I love the lyrics, - the guitars on PCH (and the fact I used to live just off PCH hence partiality) set a nice mood for that drive I used to take late at night with the radio playing and the smell of ocean air swirling :)
I also like how Car Crash has that "driving" "uprising" chorus too
That was totally amazing. Being depressed about not growing up to be an evil genius is totally understandable, so I'm glad that made the best-of reel. We all feel that way sometimes, Courtney.
Aw. I'm torn, on one hand she's incredibly entertaining and obviously smart but on the other hand she's clearly either on some mood altering drug or not well and I feel weird being entertained by that. It really just makes me miss the mid-90s music scene (yes I know this was 2002, but still, Courtney always represents that era to me)
@trulymadlyme: See, first she does ubersweet stuff like that, then she lets a paparazzi take a picture of a random homeless guy sucking her tit on a New York street.
@WaltzingMatilda(theOriginal): I went to see her at the Roxy in 2004 when America's Sweetheart came out. The show was absolutely terrible but I and a few other hardcore fans decided to stay and wait for her to come out afterwards anyway, and the staff at the Roxy were kind enough to let us wait inside for her.
So she finally came down the stairway at 4am and was talking to everyone, who were being all "woooo Courts I love you" generic. So of course I wanted to say something different, so I asked her if she liked my earrings (which WERE pretty awesome). She turned around and was all "Ohhhh hunnneee they're great!! Would you die now, please? Thanks." And I was like "Did Courtney Love just tell me to die??...AWESOME!!"
Other highlights of the night: I told some guy I was in the Donnas, and he believed me.
@Your Screenplay Sucks: Yeah, I think the trick is challenging her for attention in any way, shape or form. No way is Courtney Love gonna let anyone out-Courtney-Love Courtney Love.
@BruiseViolet: I remember there was a really young girl there, and she was trying to talk to Eric Erlandson and was crying. He was really sweet to her. She was so precious, I wanted to scoop her up and cuddle her like she was mah kitteh. heh.
I was lucky enough to see Hole three times - once when Live Through This had just come out, once on Lollapalooza and once during the Celebrity Skin tour. Of course, I was a behbeh then myself, so I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen at the time. I don't know what my jaded ass would think now, but it was definitely important and wonderful to me then.
I never got to see Babes in Toyland, though. They never played anywhere close enough to me. Saddoes!!
