I will also add that I come from generations of teenage mothers. I was 18. My husband and I have already discussed that our daughter will be on birth control at 12-13. Hopefully, please god, she won't need it, but it will be in place, and she won't ever have to ask for it. It will be in place. Granted, this may be easier to intellectualize than put into practice, but I at least have 7-8 years to go. My son turns 12 next week. I can't force birth control on to him, and it is terrifying. He has already gone through puberty, and I am always on his facebook trolling for any girl over 14. We were way too young to have a baby, but I was too busy changing diapers and trying to make rent, but still get a college degree, to take the time to realize it. Now that I have a child entering adolescence, I feel so young to have a teenager. It's an even greater adjustment to be 30 and try to relate as a mother to a 12 year old boy than to be 18 and have a baby.

I just sat down with both my sons (4 months and 22 months) and had "the talk". I figure if I start early and repeat the story every day I stand a good chance of them getting out of college without an STD or a pregnancy scare.

I told them that inside every vagina is a monster that will eat your pee pee off. That monster is allergic to latex, so if you wear a condom he won't eat your penis.

This is why minor parents should have their parents rights terminated at birth unless they can show employment and the means to support a child. First adoption rights can go to the minor's parents/aunts/uncles or other close family, but there MUST be a legal adult willing to take legal responsibility for an infant.

This is just sad sad, and if we don't trust 13/15 year olds with cars, contracts, or ANY decisions whatsoever, WHY are we allowing them to keep an infant they cannot care for and have literally no grasp of how to care for?

This story breaks my heart and makes me worry first for their child and then for both of them.

The answer isn't to just force teenage parents into responsibility without teaching them or giving them the means to actually do that.

Not all, but a lot of teenage parents WANT to be good parents. They don't know how. The fact that they became teenage parents in the first time may be an indicator that they didn't have the best parents themselves.

So while I would never advocate leaving an infant or any child in a sub standard environment I think it is pretty harsh to talk about terminating someones rights at birth based solely on their age.

Some of the best mothers I know became mothers in their teens. How sad that in your world they never would have had that chance.

Sometimes I don't understand how the same world could have both 12-year-olds having babies and 24-year-old virgin me. If my life had gone differently, I could have had a 13-year-old kid by now!

By the way, the world record for the age of the youngest mother is 6. You can read about it on Snopes.com.
