Last month, a Milwaukee county employee walked into a house that had been repossessed because of a tax foreclosure and found a very disturbing sight: a dead body. It turned out to be the former home owner, David Carter, who had been in the dead in the house since 2007. Yikes. His body was "nearly skeletonized," and showed evidence of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Apparently, Carter, who would have turned 45 on the day his body was found, died in the home and no one noticed or thought to check on his whereabouts. He'd told friends he was moving to New Mexico; so people assumed he didn't live in the house anymore. Still, you'd think someone would inquire after him, but no. Eventually, the utilities were turned off after a neighbor noticed a broken pipe, and the mail was stopped because it was piling up. But nobody ever checked inside. Why would anyone do something simple like that? Silly! There wasn't even a mortgage company to come calling since Carter's mother had paid the house off; so it wasn't until the taxes grew to more than $30,000 that someone came by to see what was up, because $30,000 is the exact number, apparently, when people begin to give a shit. Fifteen-year-old Amanda Cummings stepped in front of a bus two days after Christmas, suicide note in her pocket. Her family's understandably heartbroken by their loss, but they're even more heartbroken by the response Amanda's death has gotten on the internet. Online forum 4chan, notorious for targeting dead kids for some good, old fashioned, hilarious postmortem bullying, have decided that she's the current object of their impish derision, and Amanda's family doesn't understand why. We're not thrilled about Dr. Phil's involvement in this, but there's some good news in the Rebecca Zahau case: Her body is being exhumed to determine if her death really was a suicide. Many have questioned law enforcement's conclusion that she bound her hands and feet and hanged herself off the balcony of her boyfriend's Coronado, California mansion. Her sister, Mary Zahau-Loehner, says, "I want to thank for all the support and donation we have received. Due to the generosity of the public, we will be able to proceed with exhumation of Rebecca to find the truth of her death." The family has hired high-profile pathologist and attorney Dr. Cyril Wecht to conduct a second autopsy. His findings will be aired on Dr. Phil's TV show, and sources claim the not very good doctor paid for part of the exhumation. More »

Taylor Armstrong says that if the Real Housewives cameras weren't a constant presence in her home she might've died at the hands of her late husband, Russell. "There was a storm happening in my life that was very separate from a camera being there," she said. "If the cameras were not in my life, there's a good chance I wouldn't be sitting here today because a lot of domestic violence situations end in murder-suicide versus just suicide." With Russell committing suicide in August, Taylor — who has a titanium implant "holding up" her right eye as a result of the abuse — added she's grateful their daughter Kennedy didn't lose both parents: "I'm thankful to be here. To some, this pose and setting suggests a very different kind of 1940s reference: photographer Robert Miles' famous image of Evelyn McHale, who in 1947 committed suicide by jumping from the observation deck of the Empire State Building, and landed on a parked limousine.
