Bugaboo—which became the first and most popular luxury stroller brand, with products up to $1000, after a very fortuitous endorsement from Sex and the City—has responded to the economic downturn which cost the company a 40% nosedive in sales by releasing its most expensive stroller yet, The Bugaboo Donkey, at $1500. The Donkey is sold as a single stroller/shopping cart but can be converted into a double stroller—at an extra cost of course, given the accessories that need to be purchased to enable the transformation. The Donkey has limited availability right now, building up demand and waiting lists until its wider release this summer. Strollers in which babies face away from their parents may hurt their development Researchers in Scotland found that when children were seated facing their parents their heart rates fell, they were more likely to laugh, and they were twice as likely to fall asleep. The report concludes that manufacturers should consider turning strollers around to make them more emotionally healthy. "Our data suggests that for many babies today, life in a buggy is emotionally impoverished and possibly stressful," says lead author Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk. "Stressed babies grow into anxious adults."
