Sony Debuts, Immediately Pulls Stupidly Sexist PlayStation Ad

Corporations just keep releasing sexist ads and yanking them when the Internet (predictably) shits bricks. The latest offender is Sony, with a dumb-as-dirt PlayStation ad. Here’s an idea: Hire somebody to vet these ideas before you spend money making them.

According to the Verge (h/t Business Insider), Sony dropped the video Friday, on its European PlayStation channel on YouTube. It features a hot lady doctor with a British accent (OOGA! OOGA!) talking about masturbation. “I know you’ve already done it today. And I bet you really enjoyed yourself. How many times did you do it yesterday? Are you afraid you’re doing it too often? In your bedroom under the blankets?” GOTCHA! She’s actually talking about playing video games! Sometimes hot ladies play video games, too! Penis penis penis, Sony wins this round of the penis game!!!

The ad was obviously sexist to anyone who hasn’t been sleeping in a cryogenic chamber under the Time-Life Building since 1965. Don’t even try to tell me that the point is “ladies are gamers too, consider your expectations subverted” because yeah, it doesn’t work that way. Go sell that bullshit somewhere else; we’re not buying. This is blatant pandering to the libidos of horny teenage boys, which assumes that only horny teenage boys play video games. Gross.

Anyway, Sony yanked the ad almost instantly, but not before somebody ripped it. More ads like the campaign featuring the New York City Ballet; fewer ads featuring sexist bullshit. Thanks.
