Scoobies Rejoice! Sarah Michelle Gellar Is Down to Make a Buffy MovieS

Blow off your slayer duties and get ready to party at The Bronze tonight because we've got a reason to celebrate. While promoting her new sitcom The Crazy Ones, Sarah Michelle Gellar said that she's open to the possibility of returning to the role of Buffy Summers in a film version of the Buffy TV show — the most beloved TV show in the world (or, at the very least, in this particular writer's heart).

“If there ever was the right story, we would do it," the actress/Chosen One told E!

The "we" she's referring to is herself and Buffy creator Joss Whedon. Apparently, the pair talk about making a Buffy movie all of the time. (I am now a pile of dust on the floor because this news has slayed me.)

"But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn't work as a film." Gellar continued. "And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time."

Not to sully the wonderful news that Whedon and Gellar are even considering making a new Buffy movie, but, dude, what's the deal with slagging off Buffy the Vampire Slayer O.G? That movie is awesome — Kristy Swanson is a revelation, Luke Perry is a babe, Paul Reubens has a magnificent death scene, and Donald Sutherland as the Watcher — don't even get me started. (Or get me started. We can continue this conversation in the comments.) Point being, it's the best and it should be an honor to follow in its footsteps.

Regardless of Sarah Michelle Gellar and my differing opinions on the original Buffy, the possibility of a new big screen version is really quite exciting.
