• The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office — the same outfit that shook down meek little Starbucks! — is charging British designer Matthew Williamson with the theft of traditional African fabric patterns, to which his rep says: "Historically, Matthew Williamson bases his collections on the idea of a modern girl who is a global traveler. Her style is in part defined by incorporating many different cultures, traditions and customs. Nobody has the right to claim these designs as their own. " [Vogue UK]

• For its 140th anniversary issue, Harper's Bazaar styles little kids to look like mini-versions of our favorite (and not) fashion designers. And oh my god, is it awesome. (Please note mini-Olivier Theyskens, at left.) This is 10 times better than that Simpsons fashion spread, which was itself pretty freaking inspired, and may force us to reevaluate our position on the whole magazine, which is a lot to handle right now. So I finally got myself to a Kohl's in Virginia over the weekend and my assessment of "Simply Vera" is, um, they were mostly out of my size, and I really loathe those women who are always whining that all the sizes carried in stores anymore are too big (seriously, women who do this: stop) but like, seriously; a lot of things seemed to be only available in sizes larger than 16 and it made me wonder whether Kohl's shouldn't have adjusted its size run of the collection. Because not for nothing did Simply Vera get so much press; a few pieces were really nice. This blouse — now on sale for $42.99 — was perfect and this coat thing looks really good on, not that it probably ever occurred to you that you would need a short-sleeved coat but whatevs. The fabrics were really nice and the craftsmanship seemed superb, though the netting adorning some of the tops was a little tacky and some of the bottoms seemed to have a hem problem. Kohl's itself was empty, Yankee candle-scented, and already selling faux pink and white Christmas trees. Ah, retail. [Simply Vera] More »

The word on the street is that the rich folk knitwear company is going to be ending the Mother Teresa Of Hollywood's contract as the face of their design house after this year. As if the city hadn't already played host to enough monumental occasions involving, uh, "wang" this week, MINNEAPOLIS ALREADY HAS "SIMPLY VERA" FOR KOHLS, according to Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine style blogger (and Replacements fan!) Sara Glassman. That's right. Now. Not September 9th. And girlfriend says get thee to Kohl's ASAP to snatch the shit up because it's really good and OMGoutinstoresalreadysoifyouwaittilltheactualrelasedateyou'llbeSCREWED. Of course. So we did a little investigating ourselves. Do you have to make a pilgrimage to a certain historically lewd airport to get some early?
