Shonda Rhimes Is Writing a Movie About Female War Correspondents

As if you weren't excited enough about Shonda Rhimes' latest TV project already, she's teaming up with Sony's Columbia Pictures to return to her big screen roots. Rhimes' new movie, which has been in talks since before Grey's Anatomy, will be about female war correspondents, a subject that Rhimes has been interested in writing about since around the time of the Iraq War.

Hannah Minghella, president of production at Columbia pictures:

"Shonda first explored the idea of a story about female war correspondents for television, but over the years, it's become a much bigger story and we're thrilled that she sees a way to do it on the big screen."

With a biopic about the late, great Sunday Times correspondent Marie Colvin, who died in Syria last year, in the works, Rhimes' aptly-named War Correspondents couldn't come at a better time.
