Stephen Colbert broke character to tell funk and soul legend Sharon Jones last night, "I'm not sure I have the right to use this word, but you are fierce." That's how excited he was to have her there.

As tired and abused as the term is, Colbert had a point. Jones held forth on her past as a corrections officer and a wedding singer, although she never did admit which wedding song makes her wake up screaming.
