Sharon Needles and Alaska Split; Love and Happiness Are Dead

The love that we all thought would last a thousand moons and a thousand suns has died.

Today, RuPaul Drag Race alums Sharon Needles (AKA SERIOUSLY LIKE THE BEST WINNER EVER) and fellow Drag Race star Alaska, her partner for more than four years, announced their split. Prepare for the light of the sun to die:

Needles (real name Aaron Coady), who won season 4 of the show, and Alaska, who was a runner up the following season, announced their breakup “on good terms” in a tongue-in-cheek press release, and included their wish “to clarify their intentions to admirers who may question the reason behind this mutual decision not to continue their relationship.” “The survival of our partnership relies on simply changing the word ‘boy’ in boyfriend to ‘best,'” Needles says. “And because of my severe vanity, I’d like to keep my social media as a place dedicated to my art, and not a place to talk about my personal life.”

Alaska, who I will now refer to as Half of the Thing That Once Made My Heart Whole, added “I will always love Sharon and we will continue to be a part of each other’s lives.” Yeah, but what about ME, Alaska? What about me.

That’s it, everyone. I can’t go on. I give up on my soul. I let it fly away like a tragic, broken-winged whip-poor-will. I know it will fall to the ground and meet it’s end, but I know it cannot live in this dark prison and I just wanted to let it fly one last time.
