Last month, 52-year-old Mark Aulger was very sick with complications from his treatment for colon cancer. His wife Diane was pregnant and was just two weeks from her due date when the doctor informed them that Mark's condition was fatal. When he was told he only had five or six days to live, Mark said "I'd like to see the baby." Diane, 31, and her doctor decided to induce labor, and she gave birth to the daughter Savannah on January 18th, with Mark's hospital bed right next to hers. More »

Last night's episode of World According to Paris presented an interesting opportunity for the socialite/reality star to comment on how tabloids perpetuate unattainable beauty standards for women after "unflattering" photos of her in a tight outfit led to rumors that she was pregnant. It's not that we expected particularly deep thoughts out of Paris, especially in regards to women's issues. But we totally did not expect that her response to the rumors with, "I hope they're not right." Instead of getting rightfully pissed off that the media would not allow her weight to fluctuate like any normal person's without jumping to conclusions about the state of her uterus, she instead worried that they were on to something and bought a home pregnancy test. This is so depressing: Sheyla Hershey, who claimed to have the largest enhanced breasts in the world, is in a coma following a second suicide attempt. Since having her implants removed following an infection, Hershey is said to have been depressed, saying she felt "so ugly...without them, I don't know who I am." She also told the Sun, "Once I reclaim my identity as the World's Biggest Boobs I can be a better role model for my daughter." Hershey was actually scheduled to have the implants reinstated when she overdosed; she has been diagnosed as bipolar and was in therapy for her surgery addiction. More »

Sad news from Down Under: the confused baby humpback whale who lost his mum and tried to suckle a yacht in Sydney Harbor, will be (or has already been) euthanized, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. According to National Parks spokesman John Dengate, "The animal is suffering from previous shark-inflicted injuries, is experiencing breathing difficulties and its flukes are hanging down…The last thing we want is that the whale should suffer." However, Bunna Lawrie, the "aboriginal whale whisperer, thinks they should let the whale live. "All we have to do is get it out to sea, nurse it out there and guard and wait for pod of whales. Vicki Van Meter, the lil' pilot who flew a plane from Augusta, Maine to San Diego in 1993 at the age of 11, has committed suicide. In 1994, Van Meter made headlines again by flying across the Atlantic from Augusta to Glasgow, Scotland. She shot herself in the head after a years-long struggle with depression. Her brother, Daniel, told the AP that Vicki had recently gone off her meds. "She was unhappy, but it was hard for her to open up about that," Daniel said. "We all thought that she was coping."
