Report: Gloria Darden, Mother of Freddie Grey, Attempted Suicide

Latest

CBS Baltimore is reporting that Gloria Darden, mother of Freddie Grey, attempted suicide on late Wednesday night. According to the report (which we saw via Fusion), Darden was transported to a nearby hospital and “no surgery or stitches were needed.”

Darden’s son, the 25-year-old Grey, was arrested and killed by Baltimore police in April. His death set off a series of protests in the city which demanded that the police be held accountable for their actions. Darden was a visible presence through the protests, on April 27, she held a press conference encouraging protesters to remain peaceful. “I want you all to get justice for my son. Don’t do it like this,” she said.

Six police officers were later charged with Grey’s death and the city of Baltimore recently settled a $6.4 million wrongful death lawsuit with his family.

CBS Baltimore reports that Darden is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
