In an effort to elucidate at least part of the vaguest sexual assault story ever, a representative from the Rhodes Trust issued a statement to the New York Times in which he confirms that the Trust suspended Yale quarterback Patrick J. Witt's candidacy after learning of the sexual assault charges filed against him by a fellow student. The Trust had informed Yale on Nov. 4 that Witt's candidacy would be dropped unless the school endorsed him by Nov. 15. When Yale still hadn't endorsed Witt by Nov. 13, Witt made the announcement that he was foregoing his prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and all quad-walking privileges that come with it so that he could play school hero in the Harvard-Yale game (Yale lost anyway). Witt, who at 22 is eligible and being groomed like a prized English setter for the NFL draft, insists that he made the decision to play in the Harvard-Yale game independently from the Rhodes Trust's decision. Over the weekend, new details have come out about the interactions between news anchor Greg Kelly and the woman who accused him of rape last week—and the plot has certainly thickened. First, it's becoming more clear what happened the night of the alleged assault. It was initially reported that Kelly, who co-hosts Fox 5's Good Day New York, had met the woman the same night she claims the attack happened, but, in fact, they met two days prior when she recognized him from TV on the street. Students at Tulane University say the uptown New Orleans neighborhood that cradles their campus has become so treacherous a gauntlet of violent crime that they're afraid to travel to and from school and are calling on university president Scott Cowen to devote more resources to ensuring their off-campus safety.  Some, like Vice President of Student Organizations Sam Stone in his letter to the editor of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, have even claimed that off-campus crime is only getting worse, that "aggravated burglary at night" and "daytime armed carjackings" have escalated to the "forcible rape" of female students in the off-campus area around Tulane.  But, in a city that had the highest murder rate per capita in 2010, where, for every 100,000 residents, 262 are assaulted with a gun, should New Orleans police prioritize crimes in the university neighborhoods, and how much can the university itself do to protect students who choose to commute from off-campus residences? Alison Fournier, a former New York City investment banker, is suing the Starwood hotel chain for an incident that took place in Finland. Today the Defense Department released its "Annual Report on Sexual Harassment and Violence at the Military Service Academies," which found that during the 2010-2011 academic year there were 65 reports of sexual assault at the three top military academies, up from 41 the previous year. A couple torn asunder by the Bosnian war. A love story, but really about a love that could have been. We've been repeatedly horrified over the years by incidents similar to the case of Joseph Fritzl, the Austrian man convicted of holding his daughter captive for many years while he sexually abused her. However, "Adolf B," the man dubbed the "German Fritzl" by the media, has managed to add a disgusting new twist to the tale by arguing in court that his daughter consented to their 34-year sexual relationship, which she says started when she was 12.
