London-based brand Ralph & Russo showed its first couture line in Paris this morning — the first time a British house was invited to show on the official couture calendar since 1915! — and its inaugural couture season, fittingly, hearkened back to Haute Couture's heyday.
The line drips on 40's and 50's glamour; it heavily features rosette details and other sculptural flourishes. Both the tailoring and the color palette mix delicacy and boldness, softness and structure. While not the most original showing we've seen so far, it's a beautiful (and very red carpet-ready!) debut collection. Unfortunately, it features a formal skirt-pant, which I cannot in good faith condone — but, whatever, otherwise it's all gorgeous.
