Quick Question: Did This Republican Congressman Wink at Cecile Richards?

Earlier today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards testified before the House Oversight Committee. The hearing was infuriating for a number of reasons, but it was perhaps congressional Republicans’ treatment of Richards that was most appalling. Richards was interrupted on multiple occasions and Rep. John Duncan (R-TN) condescendingly asked her,“Surely you don’t expect us to be easier on you just because you’re a woman?”

But the dumbest behavior might belong to Rep Trey Gowdy (R-SC). On a Vine shared by NBC News producer Frank Thorp V (which we saw on Talking Points Memo), it looks like Gowdy might have winked at Richards. “It’s not always what you say, it’s sometimes just what you mean,” Gowdy says to her as he nods and winks. Get it?

Thorp shared the Vine with the caption: “Rep Trey Gowdy (R-SC) winks at Planned Parenthood Pres Cecile Richards during today’s Hse Oversight Cmte hearing.”

When Gowdy isn’t busy winking at the President of PPFA, he serves as the chair of the House select committee on Benghazi. He seems cool.
