Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! Makes Her Stage Debut

Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! Makes Her Stage DebutMore than two weeks after telling Rolling Stone that she would undergo hormone replacement therapy to transition to life as a woman named Laura Jane Grace, the Against Me! singer formerly-known-as-Tom Gabel made her live debut in front of a stoked San Diego crowd Friday night. According to Rolling Stone, the band played six new songs, among them a "rollicking anthem" called "Transgender Dysphoria Blues."

In Grace's May 8 Rolling Stone interview, she discussed her lifelong struggle with gender dysphoria, and shared her doubts about publicly discussing her transition. During Friday's show, Grace limited the stage banter and didn't openly address the fact that she'd begun hormone replacement therapy two weeks earlier. Though she was concerned that the therapy, which involves redistributing her muscle mass, could affect her stamina, she stormed through the whole set, nbd, because that's what punk rock is all about — being a bad-ass.
