Professor Argues Blackface Is A-OK As Long As It's For Charity

Latest

Ready to hear the most pathetic defense of blackface of all time? An adjunct college instructor argued that a group of pals who darkened their skin to lip-sync to The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” didn’t do anything wrong because they raised money and she wasn’t in it.

Robin Lowe, an adjunct from Appalachian State University, posted a Facebook photo of people in blackface during a fundraiser for the Blowing Rock Community Foundation in North Carolina. When someone was all, “this is racist,” Lowe got defensive:

To summarize her argument, blackface is racist but chill in this case because:

  • They raised a ton of money for scholarships.
  • And other charities.
  • It was a great act.
  • You’ll get a good laugh out of it!
  • Lowe herself isn’t in the photo.
  • It was a show.
  • These are all solid, good people.
  • SNL does it.

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope and nope. When in doubt/JK ALWAYS: say no to blackface! It is, in fact, possible to pretend to sing Jackson 5 songs (and raise money for charity) without pretending to be black.
