A pregnant woman in South Carolina was trying to lift a few things from a beauty supply store when one of the store's employees caught her red-handed. Rather than admit she was wrong and return the goods, Alexis Sade Hayes went on the attack. She hit the employee in the head with a can of hairspray she'd been intending to shoplift and then took off running, but not before dropping the purse that contained the stolen items. She was later caught and arrested—and also taken to the hospital for abdominal pain. She claims she was defending herself, but it's clear she was the aggressor. She could face assault charges. Among the many frank details the book reveals, there is one that stands out and makes the whole incident even sadder than it already was: Giffords, who at the time of the shooting was 41, had been trying to get pregnant when she was injured. She went to the doctor, fearing ovarian cancer, only to be told that she was seven months preggers. "I was lying on the examination table thinking, 'I'm going to die' when the sonographer turned round to me and said 'Congratulation. My initial reaction was to think, 'What a terrible way to tell me I've got ovarian cancer.' When he then said, 'You're pregnant' I was literally speechless," Tollefsen told reporters. The study was done by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and also said that the sharpest decline in natural birth was from women who had already given birth to first child through C-section. A new study has found that women who give birth to boys are more likely to suffer post-partum depression than those who had daughters. Researchers from Université Nancy, France, have also found that women who had boys reported lower "quality of life scores" in 70% of cases compared with women who had baby girls — regardless of whether they suffered from post-partum depression.
