Selfies, Politics and Poop: It's the Annual Peeps Diorama Contest

Latest

Easter is just around the corner, so you know what that means: peeps! If there’s anything that truly honors the Christian themes of resurrection and sacrifice, it’s brightly colored sugar gobs molded into misshapen adorable little animals. Of course this season also marks the return of the annual Peeps Show, Washington Post‘s diorama contest that revolves around finding the most creative homage to the most topical news of the year using sugary bunnies. And this year, things got political.

This year’s winner was “I Have a Dream: Martin Luther King Jr. Addresses the Peeple.” That’s right, the ode to the 1963 March on Washington was in full greyscale, complete with signs demanding voting rights.

There were many many very topical finalists including an ode to the greatest trend of this millennium entitled “Selfies: A Retrospeeptive” and included including all sorts of meticulously assembled variations of the self portrait ranging from cave men to Van Gogh to the ever-awkward bathroom Myspace pic to the infamous Oscar selfie.

There was even a reference to the inescapable “Wrecking Ball” and “Peeping POTUS,” a tongue-in-cheek jab at the NSA surveillance scandal. But the real dark horse here was a genius diorama entitled “Everyone Peeps.” It featured only two yellow peeps in separate bathroom stalls pooping. And the toilet pipes fed into jars of marshmallow fluff. Please take a moment to let the gravity of that image just set in.

TIL poop always wins. Always.
